Nairobi, Kenya – July 7, 2025   The National Police Service (NPS) has issued an official statement updating the public on the outcomes of the “SabaSaba” protests held across the country earlier today. The demonstrations, marked by both peaceful and violent episodes, resulted in significant loss of life and property damage.

According to the press release signed by Muchai Nyaga, Director of Corporate Communication and Spokesperson for the NPS, a total of 11 fatalities were recorded, while 52 police officers and 11 civilians sustained injuries. Additionally, the protests saw widespread destruction, including 12 police vehicles, 3 government vehicles, and 4 civilian cars damaged.

In total, 567 individuals have been arrested, among them Hon. Gitonga Mukunji, the Member of Parliament for Manyatta Constituency.

The NPS acknowledged that while most Kenyans demonstrated peacefully and adhered to the law, certain elements exploited the protests to commit acts of lawlessness. These included assaults on law enforcement officers, looting, and the destruction of public and private property.

“NPS commends the majority of Kenyans for being law-abiding and heeding the call to maintain law and order,” the statement read. “However, certain individuals remained determined to engage in acts of lawlessness.”

The statement emphasized that each reported incident would undergo further investigation, with all actions pursued in accordance with Kenyan law.

The police also took time to praise their officers for maintaining restraint and professionalism, despite provocations and violent attacks during the protests.

“We commend our officers for exceptional restraint in the face of violence by criminals who infiltrated the protests,” Nyaga noted.

The NPS urged citizens with information on individuals involved in criminal activities related to the protests to report through police stations or via the toll-free hotlines 999, 911, 112, or the #FichuakwaDCI number: 0800 722 203.

In conclusion, the police service reaffirmed its commitment to protect Kenyan lives and property while ensuring that all reported cases are thoroughly and swiftly investigated to bring perpetrators to justice.
