A family in Nyamira County is living with deep pain and unanswered questions after the death of a 39-year-old father of two. His life ended weeks after an incident that the family says involved violence from a government administrator and Nyumba Kumi members.

The man, who lived in Enchoro Village, died after suffering serious injuries in mid-December. His family believes those injuries were caused by a brutal assault that happened as he was going home with his wife and children.

According to relatives, the incident took place on December 11. It began like any normal evening, with the family heading home together, unaware that their lives were about to change forever.

They say an assistant chief stopped them on the road. The reason given was suspicion that the man was transporting illicit brew. What followed, according to the family, was not an arrest or questioning, but a violent confrontation.

The widow later gave a painful and emotional account of what she says happened that night. Her voice still carries fear and shock as she remembers the moment her husband was attacked.

“They hit my husband’s leg and he fell down. The Nyumba Kumi youths jumped on him and started beating him,” she said.

She explained that the violence did not stop with her husband. She claims she was also attacked during the incident, adding another layer of trauma to an already terrifying experience.

She alleged that during the chaos, the administrator forcibly removed her clothes, leaving her humiliated and helpless as the violence continued around her.

The couple’s son, who witnessed the attack, tried to protect his mother. What he saw that night is something no child should ever experience.

“The child ran to ask him, ‘What are you doing to my mother?’ He hit the child’s head against a tree,” the widow narrated.

The family says the attack left the man badly injured. Though he survived that night, his condition worsened over the following weeks as he struggled with the effects of the injuries.

Weeks later, the father of two succumbed to his wounds, leaving behind a grieving widow and children who are now growing up without their main provider.

However, the assistant chief has strongly denied the family’s version of events. He claims the man was not assaulted at the scene and that he may have been injured elsewhere.

“When I seized the alcohol, the woman tried to pull me a bit, but she removed her clothes, so I let her go. The man had already run away,” the administrator stated.

This statement directly contradicts the widow’s account, raising serious questions about what truly happened on that road in Enchoro Village.

The widow says she reported the matter to Kiambere Police Station shortly after the incident. She was given an Occurrence Book number, which she believes proves that she took action immediately.

She also claimed this was not the first time the administrator had attacked her family, suggesting a history of conflict and fear that had gone unresolved.

As the family waited for answers, an autopsy was conducted to establish the cause of death. The results painted a grim picture.

The post-mortem report showed that the man died from a skull fracture caused by blunt force trauma to the head. This finding has fueled the family’s belief that he was violently beaten.

The body of the deceased is still lying at the Nyamira County Morgue. Each day it remains there is another painful reminder of the justice the family feels has been delayed.

The widow says her children keep asking when their father will come home. She has no words to explain how a simple journey home ended in death.

Human rights advocates say the case highlights serious concerns about abuse of power, accountability, and the role of local security structures like Nyumba Kumi.

As the family continues to mourn, they are also demanding answers. They want those responsible to be held accountable, no matter their position.

For now, the people of Enchoro Village and the wider Nyamira County are left watching closely, hoping that the truth will come out and justice will finally be served for a father whose life ended too soon.
