The AFC/M23 coalition has made a serious warning to the world about what they say is a dangerous plan by the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

According to the group, the Kinshasa government is secretly preparing for a large-scale war, even though they recently signed peace commitments in Doha on July 19, 2025.

In a statement released on Monday, August 11, 2025, and signed by AFC/M23 spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka, the group claimed that the government has been moving weapons and soldiers to several regions.

Kanyuka said the deployment is proof that Kinshasa is preparing for direct conflict. He noted that over 1,000 soldiers have already been sent to the frontlines.

“The Kinshasa government is continuing military attacks aimed at starting a full-scale war,” Kanyuka said.

The statement explained that military movements have been reported in areas like Nimbira, Mwenga, Bunyakiri, Kibuwa, Pinga, and Uvira.

According to Kanyuka, soldiers and weapons were transported from Kindu to Shabunda, and from Kinshasa to Bujumbura. More supplies came from Kisangani and were sent to Walikale.

One of the most concerning reports, Kanyuka said, came on Sunday, August 10, 2025. On that day, boats carrying 1,125 pro-government fighters were seen traveling from Kalemie to Uvira.

“These actions go directly against the ceasefire agreement,” Kanyuka stated. “They also show a clear plan to escalate the fighting.”

The AFC/M23 believes that these movements are part of a larger military strategy designed to increase tensions and discredit peace efforts.

Kanyuka accused Kinshasa of “deliberately raising hostility” and “undermining peaceful solutions.”

He also claimed that these preparations are linked to highly coordinated attacks in civilian areas, which have already killed innocent people and forced many to flee their homes.

The AFC/M23 says they remain committed to protecting civilians despite the current tensions.

They stressed that they still have the will to engage in peaceful negotiations if the government is genuinely ready to find solutions.

The statement urged the international community to pay close attention to what is happening in eastern Congo before the situation worsens.

According to AFC/M23, ignoring the warning signs could lead to a humanitarian crisis affecting thousands of people.

They say the movement of troops and weapons shows that war is not only possible, it might already be in the making.

Kanyuka ended by reminding the world that AFC/M23’s mission is to defend civilians and work towards lasting peace.

However, with both sides preparing for possible escalation, many fear that peace in eastern Congo could be slipping away fast.

Observers are now watching closely to see how the Kinshasa government will respond to these accusations.

For people living in the affected regions, the fear of another outbreak of fighting is growing every day.
