Alan Shearer Breaks Silence: Newcastle’s Big Problem, Isak’s Exit Drama, and What Must Happen Next

Alan Shearer has spoken, and he’s not holding back.

The Newcastle United legend is clearly frustrated with how things are going at his beloved club this summer. From failed transfer deals to the possible exit of star striker Alexander Isak, Shearer says it’s “not a good look” for a team that just a season ago looked ready to challenge the Premier League elite.

Shearer, who is never shy when it comes to his opinions, pointed out that Newcastle have missed out on many top players. Joao Pedro, James Trafford, and Bryan Mbeumo were all targets, but each of them went elsewhere. The club only managed to sign Antony Elanga for £55 million from Nottingham Forest. Other than that, it’s been mostly disappointment.

Shearer believes the reason could be something deeper: a lack of strong leadership.

He reminded fans that Newcastle have not replaced key figures like Sporting Director Paul Mitchell and CEO Darren Eales, who both left last year. For a big club trying to build momentum, that’s a major issue.

“Why can’t Newcastle get business done?” Shearer asked during a recent interview with Betfair. “I don’t know whether it’s to do with the fact they don’t have a Chief Executive or Sporting Director. They’ve known for months now that the Chief Executive was leaving, so I’m pretty surprised that one hasn’t been announced as yet.”

He added: “The Sporting Director left a couple of months ago now and they’ve known that, so that’s a big surprise that those spaces haven’t been filled. Whether that has anything to do with Newcastle’s lack of business and the number of players that have said no to them, I don’t know. It’s not a good look.”

And then comes the biggest concern of all, the possible departure of Alexander Isak.

The Swedish striker has been one of Newcastle’s brightest stars since joining the team. His pace, skill, and eye for goal have made him a fan favorite and one of the best forwards in Europe. But now, reports suggest that Isak wants to leave, and Liverpool is waiting.

Alan Shearer says this could be the biggest blow yet. Losing Isak would leave a massive hole in the team. And even worse, it might show other players that Newcastle is no longer a club going forward.

“Eddie [Howe] will have to be at his persuasive best to try and turn Isak’s head around because it has been turned in terms of him wanting to go to Liverpool,” Shearer said.

He continued, “On the proviso that he does want to go and Eddie can’t turn his head, then you get the money. But prior to that, you have to get people in to replace him.”

That’s the key: replacing Isak before letting him go. Otherwise, Newcastle could find themselves in a dangerous situation, without a star striker and no one ready to step in.

To make matters worse, Newcastle has already missed out on Benjamin Sesko. The young striker is heading to Manchester United instead, despite being a top target for the Magpies.

So what now?

Shearer believes it’s time for the club’s owners to step up. They need to fix the leadership vacuum and take action in the transfer market. Fast.

Fans are growing frustrated, too. Many are wondering how a club with such ambition and financial backing can be so slow in doing business. Others fear that if this summer continues in the same way, Newcastle could fall behind their Premier League rivals.

With the season fast approaching, pressure is building on Eddie Howe and the club’s boardroom. The decisions made in the next few weeks could define Newcastle’s entire campaign.

Alan Shearer’s warning is clear: Newcastle need to act, and they need to act now.

The football world is watching. Will the Magpies soar again or stumble into another season of what-ifs?
