Liverpool are ready to break all records. The Reds have now officially approved a £130 million move for Alexander Isak, just hours after the Newcastle striker went public with a powerful and emotional statement about “broken promises.”

The transfer drama surrounding Isak has taken a sharp turn. On Tuesday, the Swedish forward broke his silence, declaring that trust with Newcastle was gone and that the relationship could not continue.

In a strongly worded post, Isak wrote: “I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.”

“The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

These words shook the football world. Fans, pundits, and clubs reacted instantly. For Liverpool, it was seen as a green light.

Within hours, Liverpool chiefs approved a massive £130 million bid for the 25-year-old striker. That figure would smash the British transfer record. It would also push Liverpool’s summer spending past an eye-watering £400 million, after already signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the window.

Liverpool’s earlier offer of around £110 million had been rejected by Newcastle. But now, with Isak’s public statement, the Reds believe the situation has dramatically changed.

Newcastle were quick to respond. In an official statement, they said: “We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening. We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.”

“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.”

“We do not foresee those conditions being met. This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”

This response shows Newcastle are digging in. With three years left on his contract, they are not willing to lose their star striker unless their huge demands are met.

Isak’s words point to a deeper issue, broken promises behind the scenes. He suggests Newcastle agreed to certain terms but later refused to honor them. Fans are now asking: was Isak promised a move if Champions League football wasn’t secured? Or was it about wages, role in the squad, or investment in the project?

Whatever the truth, the damage is clear. The forward’s trust in Newcastle appears shattered.

For Liverpool, this is a golden chance. Manager Arne Slot wants another top-class striker to rotate with Darwin Núñez. The Reds also need firepower after selling Luis Díaz and facing injuries in attack.

Isak fits perfectly: young, Premier League-proven, and with a track record of scoring in big games. Liverpool’s owners see him as the missing piece in their rebuild.

Liverpool supporters exploded with excitement on social media. Many see Isak as the ideal player to take the attack to another level. One fan wrote on X: “This is the moment. Isak at Anfield would be unstoppable.”

Newcastle fans, however, feel betrayed. Some have accused Isak of turning his back on the club. Others, though, believe his words point to deeper problems inside St James’ Park.

If completed, the £130m fee would make Isak the most expensive signing in British football history. It would eclipse Liverpool’s own record deal earlier this summer for Wirtz.

It also shows how aggressive the Reds are becoming in the market. Just a year ago, few would have imagined Liverpool spending over £400m in a single window.

The transfer deadline is just weeks away. Every passing day increases the tension between Isak, Newcastle, and Liverpool. If Newcastle refuse to sell, Isak could face a nightmare season on the bench, something neither player nor club can afford.

Right now, Isak’s future hangs in the balance. Will Newcastle stand firm and risk an unhappy star? Or will they take Liverpool’s huge cash offer and rebuild?

What is clear is that this saga is far from over. The next few days could decide whether Alexander Isak becomes the new face of Liverpool’s attack, or remains stuck in a broken relationship at St James’ Park.
