The summer transfer window is heating up, but Alexander Isak’s future could rest on one crucial factor, his own desire to leave.
Both Liverpool and Arsenal are circling Newcastle United’s star striker, eager to secure the services of one of the Premier League’s most lethal forwards. Yet despite growing interest, insiders suggest Isak isn’t showing any signs of agitating for a move, and that’s proving to be the biggest obstacle.

Former Newcastle midfielder Geremi has weighed in on the speculation, warning that unless Isak himself “takes the decision into his own hands,” neither of the Premier League giants will be able to snatch him away from St James’ Park.
The Magpies are reportedly demanding a staggering £150 million for the 25-year-old Swede, a fee that neither Arsenal nor Liverpool seem eager to meet, especially without the player pushing for the switch.

Geremi, speaking to BoyleSports, said: “I’m not sure Newcastle would sell Isak for any fee, but it would become an issue if the player took the decision into his own hands.”
Isak still has three years left on his contract, and with Newcastle having secured Champions League football and a Carabao Cup victory this year, there’s a strong argument that the club is now offering everything a top player could want, ambition, trophies, and top-tier European football.
Geremi doesn’t believe Isak needs to chase a bigger platform.
“Newcastle are now contenders to win the Premier League and the Champions League,” he said. “The environment is all there… I don’t think he would gain anything by moving to Liverpool or Arsenal.”
It’s a bold claim, but not without merit. Newcastle’s financial muscle, revamped squad, and tactical discipline under Eddie Howe have turned them into a force to be reckoned with, and a serious player in the transfer market.
Arsenal, desperate to break their recent cycle of runner-up heartbreak, have now shifted focus toward Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres, names more attainable, and likely less costly.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have already flexed their financial power this summer, landing Bayer Leverkusen stars Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong in a blockbuster £116 million deal. While Isak remains on their radar, that price tag, and his silence, may make the move unrealistic unless something changes dramatically.
Alexander Isak holds all the power. Unless he decides it’s time to leave, Arsenal and Liverpool may have to cross his name off their wishlists.
And for Newcastle? Holding onto Isak might be the clearest signal yet that the club has truly arrived at football’s top table.
