Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has launched a national campaign aimed at mobilising support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 General Election, positioning herself as a key ally of the Kenya Kwanza administration as early campaigns begin to take shape.

Waiguru was speaking in Kirinyaga County, where she addressed a large gathering of supporters, women leaders and political allies drawn from different parts of the country. She said the campaign would focus on traversing the country to rally Kenyans particularly women, to back President Ruto’s second-term bid, arguing that continuity in leadership was necessary to safeguard and complete the government’s development agenda.

The Kirinyaga governor described her decision as a deliberate personal commitment, saying she believes President Ruto deserves another term to consolidate ongoing reforms and economic programmes. She urged leaders to shun divisive politics and instead embrace unity, adding that early political organisation was key to electoral success in 2027.

Waiguru is currently serving her second and final term as Kirinyaga Governor. Before joining county leadership, she held senior positions in national government, most notably as the Cabinet Secretary for Devolution and Planning. During her tenure as CS, she played a central role in the establishment of Huduma Centres and the rollout of the 30 per cent government procurement reservation for women, youth and persons with disabilities. She has also served as Chairperson of the Council of Governors, becoming the first woman to hold the influential position.

During the launch, Waiguru reiterated her long-standing support for President Ruto, while clarifying that she has no intention of contesting the presidency in 2027. She maintained that her own national political ambitions, if any, would come later, and for now her focus remains on strengthening women’s leadership and supporting the current administration.

Several leaders and representatives of women’s organisations attended the event, including members of the Daughters of the Mountain (DOK) network. Among those present were Lydia Mathia, the DOK national chairperson, Nerea Oketch, a regional coordinator from Nyanza, Winnie Aura from Nairobi County, and Caroline Wanjiku Muriithi, Kirinyaga County’s only elected woman MCA. The leaders praised Waiguru’s leadership record and called for greater unity among women ahead of the 2027 polls.

The launch of Waiguru’s nationwide mobilisation drive marks one of the earliest organised political efforts in support of President Ruto’s re-election, underscoring the intensifying political activity as the country slowly heads toward the next general election.
