Arsenal have pulled off a surprise swoop by snatching Salford City’s rising star Will Wright from under Liverpool’s nose in a dramatic £250,000 deal, more than double the Reds’ initial offer.

The 17-year-old striker, already hailed as one of the most exciting young prospects in League Two, had been heavily tipped to join Liverpool after the Merseyside giants tabled a £100,000 offer plus add-ons. However, the Gunners moved quickly to outbid them with a £250,000 package that includes significant performance-based clauses.

Wright, who has been making waves this pre-season with four goals in just three appearances, has attracted interest from a host of top-flight clubs including Manchester City and Burnley. Arsenal’s aggressive approach, however, seems to have sealed the deal.

Despite being in only his second year as a scholar, Wright has already made his senior debut for Salford in a high-profile FA Cup clash against Manchester City back in January, becoming one of the youngest players to feature for the club.

He’s also played in League Two fixtures against Port Vale and Bradford City, showing maturity beyond his years.

The Preston-born striker’s rise has been meteoric. Discovered just two years ago while playing for grassroots sides Euxton Villa and Fylde, Wright bagged over 50 goals across various levels for Salford last season.

His physicality, standing at 6ft 3in, combined with sharp instincts in front of goal, make him a standout prospect.

Salford City, co-owned by Manchester United legends like David Beckham and Gary Neville, were understandably reluctant to part ways with the youngster. But Arsenal’s lucrative offer appears to have been too good to turn down.

Though he is unlikely to be integrated into Mikel Arteta’s senior squad immediately, Wright is expected to join Arsenal’s U21 setup, where the club hopes to develop him into a future Premier League star.

His recent performances include a brace against FC United of Manchester in a 2-2 draw and a goal against York City, a match that was abandoned following an alleged racial abuse incident involving one of his teammates.

Arsenal’s decisive move showcases their intent to bolster their youth ranks with elite-level talent, and fans are already buzzing about the potential of Will Wright becoming the next Hale End hero.
