Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes have suffered a serious setback after Manchester City confirmed the signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth. The deal, worth £62.5 million, has sent a strong message across the league.

Manchester City officially unveiled the Ghana international this week, confirming that Semenyo has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2031.

The move strengthens Pep Guardiola’s squad as City chase a fifth Premier League title in six seasons. For Arsenal and other title rivals, this transfer feels like a clear warning.

Semenyo has been one of the standout players in the Premier League this season. His pace, power, and direct style have made him a nightmare for defenders.

Before his move, the 26-year-old was in brilliant form for Bournemouth. He scored 10 goals and provided three assists in just 21 appearances across all competitions.

His final game for Bournemouth was dramatic and memorable. Semenyo scored a last-gasp winner in a thrilling 3-2 victory against Tottenham, showing once again that he can deliver in big moments.

Just hours after that match, he travelled to Manchester to complete his medical and finalize his move to the Premier League champions.

Manchester City moved quickly to secure the deal despite strong interest from other top clubs. Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United were all linked with Semenyo during the January transfer window.

In the end, the winger made it clear that City was his top choice. Talks between club officials and his representatives progressed smoothly, leading to the deal being wrapped up fast.

Semenyo’s move ends a successful chapter with Bournemouth. He joined the club from Bristol City in 2023 and went on to make 110 appearances in all competitions.

Last season, he scored 13 Premier League goals, and this season he was already on track to beat that total before leaving the club.

Interestingly, Semenyo had only signed a new contract with Bournemouth last summer. That deal was set to run until 2030, making City’s move even more decisive.

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, Semenyo could not hide his excitement. He said: “I am so proud to have joined Manchester City. I have watched City over the last decade under Pep Guardiola, and they have been the dominant team in the Premier League as well as achieving amazing things in the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.”

He also praised the club’s standards and leadership. “They have set the highest of standards and it’s a club with world-class players, world-class facilities and one of the greatest managers ever in Pep,” he added.

Semenyo believes the move comes at the perfect time in his career. “I have so much scope for improvement, so to be at this club, at this stage of my career, is perfect for me. It’s a real privilege to be here,” he said.

The Ghanaian forward is confident there is more to come. “My best football is yet to come, I am sure of that,” Semenyo explained.

He also pointed to City’s strong position this season. “City are in a great position – still involved in four competitions. I really feel I can help them have a strong second half of the season,” he said.

Semenyo finished by embracing his new surroundings. “The Etihad is my new home. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans here and I hope to show everyone what I can do.”

Before the deal was completed, former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp caused a stir with his comments on Sky Sports. He suggested there could be a late twist involving Liverpool.

“I’m not so sure. I’ve heard there might be a little bit of a twist,” Redknapp said after Semenyo’s goal against Spurs.

He added that Liverpool should have been more aggressive. “If you’ve got a player of that quality and he shows he’s a match-winner, why wouldn’t you be in for him?” Redknapp questioned.

Despite the speculation, Manchester City completed the deal without any last-minute drama.

At City, Semenyo will face strong competition for places. Players like Rayan Cherki, Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, and Omar Marmoush are already key wide options.

His arrival could also lead to changes in the squad. Brazilian winger Savinho has been linked with a possible move away, with Tottenham showing interest.

Oscar Bobb may also consider his future after slipping down the pecking order following a long injury absence.

For Arsenal, this transfer feels like a major blow. City have once again strengthened at a key moment, reminding everyone why they remain the team to beat in the Premier League.
