Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has launched a fiery response after being dramatically kicked out of Parliament by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, all because of his outfit.
On Tuesday afternoon, chaos briefly gripped the chamber when Babu was spotted donning his advocate’s robes. Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch swiftly raised the issue, arguing that Babu’s attire resembled that of the Speaker and violated Parliament’s dress code.
“If I look at the Speaker’s panel, including yourself, you are dressed in a collar. Is it in order that the member from Embakasi East walks and sits in the House dressed as the Speaker?” Oluoch asked pointedly.

Without much debate, Speaker Wetangula ordered Babu Owino to exit the chamber, a move that instantly sparked online conversations and a strong clapback from the MP himself.
In a video clip shared hours after the incident, the outspoken legislator ridiculed Wetangula’s decision, calling it “laughable” and “ironic.”
“Today, the Speaker ejected me for dressing in a bib. It’s funny because it took me six years, four in university and two at the Kenya School of Law, to earn this dress code,” Babu said.
He didn’t stop there.
“Over 300 MPs went to a shop and bought ties in five minutes. But I spent six years to earn this robe. So, who should’ve really been ejected? The Speaker himself was in a similar outfit!” he argued.
The incident has sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans, with some hailing Babu’s stance as bold and justified, while others view it as a deliberate attempt to stir controversy.
Babu Owino, who was officially admitted to the bar in May alongside 609 other new advocates, suggested the ejection had political undertones.
He maintained that while the Speaker’s action was unfair, he had no hard feelings: “I forgive Speaker Wetangula,” he said.
Since becoming a licensed advocate, Babu has been actively involved in legal advocacy, including playing a role in the ongoing search for missing person Ndiangui Kinyagia.
Whether this standoff was a mere dress code dispute or a deeper political jab, one thing is clear, Babu Owino knows how to turn a parliamentary moment into a headline-grabbing statement.
