The last player to cross this historic line was Luis Enrique, who left Real Madrid in 1996 to join Barcelona on a free transfer. His move caused shockwaves across Spain and left many Real Madrid fans feeling betrayed. Now, almost three decades later, Rodrygo could be next to make the daring jump.

According to a report from Brazilian media outlet UOL Esporte, Barcelona have shown serious interest in Rodrygo and have already contacted intermediaries to let them know about their plans. This is not a simple rumor, Barcelona are clearly watching the situation very closely.

Rodrygo, who has been a regular part of Real Madrid’s team in recent seasons, could now be part of one of the most controversial transfers in modern football history. If he moves, it would be a move that stirs strong emotions on both sides of the rivalry.

So far, no formal negotiations have started, but Barcelona have made it clear they are open to talks if Rodrygo decides to leave Real Madrid this summer. This leaves the door wide open for what could become a historic moment in Spanish football.

Luis Enrique once said he “rarely felt appreciated by Madrid supporters” and that he didn’t have good memories from his time at the club, despite playing over 150 games for Los Blancos. His decision to leave Madrid for their biggest rivals still lives on in the memory of fans.

If Rodrygo takes the same path, the drama could reach new heights. While he hasn’t expressed dissatisfaction at Real Madrid publicly, the fact that Barcelona are preparing for a possible move suggests something is happening behind the scenes.

Adding fuel to the fire, Barcelona are also working on a deal to bring Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford on loan, with an option to buy. The Catalan giants are clearly trying to rebuild and strengthen their squad in major ways.

Meanwhile, Premier League clubs have been linked with Rodrygo too. Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly showed interest, but it now seems Chelsea are out of the race due to financial concerns.

Matt Law, a journalist from the Daily Telegraph, explained on the London Is Blue podcast that Rodrygo’s salary demands are extremely high.

“He is on huge wages and wants even bigger wages to move,” said Law. “I never saw the Rodrygo thing as a goer.”

He added that clubs like Chelsea are cautious about making big financial commitments like Rodrygo’s expected deal. “If it goes wrong, you’re stuck with an enormous problem,” he warned, referring to Chelsea’s current struggle with Raheem Sterling’s contract.

Barcelona, however, seem undeterred by the cost. Their focus appears to be on bold, headline-grabbing moves. And what could be more shocking than signing a Real Madrid star?

This story is developing fast, and if Rodrygo does move to Barcelona, it will go down as one of the most controversial transfers in football history.

For now, all eyes are on Camp Nou and Santiago Bernabéu. Will Rodrygo follow in Luis Enrique’s footsteps? Or will history stop repeating itself once again?
