Manchester United and Newcastle United have just received big news in their chase to sign Benjamin Sesko. The young striker from RB Leipzig is one of Europe’s hottest talents, and both English clubs are trying hard to bring him to the Premier League. Now, a transfer twist has given them new hope.

For the past few weeks, there were rumors that another RB Leipzig striker, Lois Openda, might join Sunderland. If that deal had happened, it would have made it much harder for Leipzig to agree to let Sesko go. Clubs don’t usually like selling two top strikers in the same transfer window.

But now, those rumors have been shut down. Sunderland are no longer interested in signing Openda. This means Leipzig may be more open to listening to offers for Sesko. According to Sky Sports, Sunderland have no plans to sign the Belgian forward.

This is great news for both Manchester United and Newcastle United. With Openda staying at Leipzig, there’s a bigger chance that the German club will let Sesko leave this summer.

Newcastle were the first club to make a move. Reports say they offered just under £70 million for the Slovenian striker. However, Leipzig quickly rejected the offer. The club is hoping for more money or a bidding war between interested teams.

Sesko had a fantastic season, scoring 22 goals in all competitions. At only 21 years old, he is already seen as one of the most promising young strikers in Europe. There were reports from Slovenia suggesting that Sesko was close to joining Newcastle, but he hasn’t made a final decision yet.

Manchester United, who are managed by Ruben Amorim, are still very interested. Amorim has been trying to fix United’s attacking problems. Last season, they scored only 44 Premier League goals, one of the lowest tallies in the league.

That poor scoring record was only better than Everton and three teams who were relegated, Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton. Amorim knows he needs a top-quality striker to lead the line if United want to compete for trophies again.

So far, United have missed out on other forwards. Viktor Gyokeres chose Arsenal. Liam Delap went to Chelsea. Hugo Ekitike signed with Liverpool. All three were targets for United, but they couldn’t get any of them.

Despite these setbacks, Amorim has managed to sign two exciting attackers: Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Both players bring speed, skill, and creativity. But Amorim still wants a true centre-forward, someone who can score 20+ goals a season.

Meanwhile, United are also making changes to their current squad. They want to sell or loan out several players, including Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, and Jadon Sancho. Marcus Rashford has already been loaned out to Barcelona.

One player who wants to stay and fight for his place is Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish striker cost United £72 million when he joined from Atalanta in 2023. But so far, his performances have not matched that huge price tag.

Hojlund spoke to the press recently. He said, “I think my plan is very clear and that’s for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens. Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me.”

He added, “I’m more than ready. I’m feeling sharp, so I’m welcoming everything that comes. I think it’s good with competition and it only sharpens the team.”

Hojlund also reminded fans and critics that he’s still young. “I’m only 22. Not every striker is scoring 100 goals at this age. But I’ve learned a lot, and I think you can see the difference in my game now.”

Manchester United recently played a 2-2 draw with Everton in the Premier League Summer Series in the United States. Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount scored for United, but Everton responded with goals from Iliman Ndiaye and a United own goal by Ayden Heaven.

The Red Devils will now return home to prepare for their next friendly match against Fiorentina on Saturday. Fans are hoping to see more improvements, and maybe even a big signing like Benjamin Sesko before the season begins.

If Sesko joins, he could be the missing piece that brings back goals, excitement, and trophies to Old Trafford. For now, both Manchester United and Newcastle will keep pushing to make the transfer happen.

Stay tuned as this story develops, the transfer window is heating up, and anything could happen next.
