Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has confirmed the formation of a special legal team tasked with compiling evidence to initiate a case against President William Ruto at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

While addressing Kenyans in Seattle, Washington State, on Friday, Gachagua delivered a bold and explosive statement, revealing that he is leading an effort to hold President Ruto accountable for what he described as “crimes against humanity” happening under his administration, ranging from extrajudicial killings to abductions, displacements, and forced disappearances.

“I want to confirm that I have put up a team that is documenting all the atrocities, the killings, displacements, disappearances, and abductions taking place in Kenya,” Gachagua declared.
“We have a team that is putting evidence together to take William Ruto to the ICC at The Hague.”

According to the former DP, this new case will not be starting from scratch. He pointed out that Ruto’s previous ICC file from the 2007 post-election violence was never closed, only paused, due to the sudden disappearance of key witnesses.

Gachagua now believes it is time to revive that file and add the current allegations to it, ensuring no impunity is left unchallenged.

This announcement comes amid rising tension in Kenya, particularly after the recent Saba Saba protests. The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) reported that over 30 people were killed during the demonstrations, which turned violent in several counties.

The KNCHR further accused police forces of colluding with armed gangs, some allegedly equipped with machetes and spears, to suppress the protests, raising serious human rights concerns both domestically and internationally.

Gachagua, who is on a U.S. tour to rally support for his Wantam agenda, made a direct appeal to the Kenyan diaspora, urging them to take an active role in what he termed “a battle for the liberation of our country.”

“That is a battle that I would like to invite you to help in,” he told the crowd.
“We have no other recourse to save our country other than sending Ruto home. We must all play a role, you cannot be silent, you must play a role in the liberation of our country.”

With this bold move, Gachagua is positioning himself at the heart of a growing political resistance against Ruto’s leadership. The proposed ICC case, if successfully filed and accepted, could lead to a landmark legal and political showdown that would not only shake Kenya but also send ripples across the continent.
