Bruno Fernandes is not happy. Even though Manchester United won the Premier League Summer Series, the captain is not impressed. After a 2-2 draw with Everton in Atlanta, Fernandes spoke openly about the team’s poor attitude and the urgent need for new players.

The game against Everton was played at the famous Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. It was the last match of United’s pre-season tour in the United States. Although United had earlier beaten West Ham and Bournemouth, the draw against Everton was enough to give them the Summer Series title. But Fernandes was not celebrating.

The Portuguese midfielder played all 90 minutes and scored from the penalty spot to open the scoring. Still, he was frustrated after United gave up the lead twice. He didn’t hold back in his post-match interview.

“We looked lazy today,” said Fernandes. “It’s improving, but it’s not where we want it to be.”

Fernandes didn’t blame any player directly, but he made it clear that the team’s effort wasn’t good enough. “I don’t want to attack anyone, but we need more competition in the squad,” he said. “We need more quality. That’s how players improve.”

He praised the club for trying to improve things but insisted that more must be done, especially in terms of transfers. “Hopefully, we can get one or two more players to help,” he added.

Fernandes also spoke about the bigger picture. Last season, Manchester United finished 15th, their worst finish in 50 years. For a club with such history and fans around the world, this was a big embarrassment.

“We have to change our mentality,” said Fernandes. “Every small detail matters. You cannot get anything wrong at this club, on or off the pitch.”

He reminded everyone that Manchester United is more than just a football team. It’s a global brand with millions of fans watching every move. Mistakes are punished, not just by the media, but by supporters as well.

“The culture here used to be about winning,” he said. “We need to bring that back. We still have a winning mentality, but if you don’t win, it doesn’t matter.”

He also talked about changes behind the scenes. “The club is trying to improve a lot of things. The facilities are better. New staff have come in. But many people who worked here for years had to leave. That hurts.”

Fernandes gave a special message to the fans. “They are paying more for tickets. We know the effort they make to support us. Now it’s up to us to pay them back with good performances.”

Manchester United’s new coach, Ruben Amorim, agreed with Fernandes. He said he was happy to hear his captain speak honestly.

“It shows he understands the situation,” Amorim said. “We are still far from where we want to be, but this is a good sign. It means the players feel the same.”

Amorim, who is new at the club, has a lot of work to do. But he believes in building a strong team culture, starting with honesty and leadership.

“At this club, there are always ups and downs,” he said. “But I prefer to hear this passion. It means they care.”

The draw with Everton was just a pre-season game. But Fernandes’s message was clear: Manchester United needs to get serious before the real season starts.

He didn’t just focus on players and tactics. He talked about attitude, effort, and pride. For Fernandes, being lazy is not acceptable, especially at a club like Manchester United.

The captain’s words will put pressure on the club to act fast in the transfer market. With the Premier League season just around the corner, fans will be watching closely to see if the club brings in the reinforcements Fernandes is asking for.

More importantly, they’ll be watching to see if the team listens to its leader, and starts playing like a team that deserves to wear the Manchester United badge.
