Bryan Mbeumo, Manchester United’s new £65 million signing, is already feeling the heat. Just one week into his new journey at Old Trafford, Mbeumo has shared some unexpected and honest thoughts about life under manager Ruben Amorim, and they say a lot about how intense things have become behind the scenes.

The 25-year-old winger, who made the switch from Brentford this summer, joined the Red Devils just in time for their pre-season tour in the United States. But this fresh start hasn’t come easy. According to former United legend Rio Ferdinand, Mbeumo’s early training sessions under Amorim have been nothing short of shocking, for all the right reasons.

Ferdinand met with Mbeumo recently during the tour and shared the moment on his show Rio Ferdinand Presents. “My man turned around and went, ‘My God. Wow. Like an athletics club, man. It’s hard. It’s really hard,’” said Rio, quoting Mbeumo’s exact words.

That one statement, “like an athletics club”, has caught the attention of fans everywhere. It shows that Amorim is not here to play games. He’s building a culture of discipline, focus, and high expectations.

Rio was quick to defend the players as well, saying people shouldn’t assume pre-season is all fun and rest. “Don’t let the fact these guys are going out and having down time make you think they’re not working,” he added. “They’re working hard.”

Ruben Amorim, who took charge in November 2024, is already shaking up the team’s habits. His high-intensity methods are designed to get the best out of the squad, especially after last season’s poor performance.

Despite reaching the Europa League final, United finished an all-time low 15th in the Premier League, which led Amorim to famously call the squad “probably the worst team in the history” of the club after a 3-1 loss to Brighton.

This summer is a turning point. And for Mbeumo, it’s an eye-opener.

So far, Mbeumo hasn’t yet played his first official game in the famous red shirt. But that might change soon, with fans hoping to see him in action during the Premier League Summer Series clash against Everton on August 3.

Mbeumo isn’t the only big signing this summer. Manchester United also spent £62.5 million to bring in Matheus Cunha from Wolves. And Amorim seems happy with both his new stars, even pointing out how different they are in character and style.

Speaking before United’s 2-1 friendly win over West Ham, Amorim said: “Cunha is a top player. He can play in different positions. He’s really loud in the dressing room. He’s Brazilian, so I love that about him.”

“But Bryan is the opposite. It’s really fun to combine all the characters and the talent in the club,” Amorim added.

Cunha already made his second appearance in the friendly match, while Mbeumo is still getting used to the pace and pressure of life at Manchester United.

But one thing is clear: Ruben Amorim’s regime is demanding. And if Mbeumo’s words are anything to go by, the hard work has just begun.

Mbeumo’s leaked comments have now sparked massive interest among fans on social media. Many praised his honesty and welcomed the new era of discipline and seriousness under Amorim. Others are excited to see how the new signings will perform once the season kicks off.

It’s not every day a Premier League star compares training to that of an athletics club. But in today’s Manchester United, that’s exactly what’s happening.

Amorim’s tough love might just be what this club needs. The journey ahead is long, but for Mbeumo and United, it seems they’re finally on the right path.

As anticipation builds for the Everton clash, all eyes will be on Mbeumo. Will the tough training pay off? Will Amorim’s new methods transform United’s fortunes?

One thing’s for sure, Manchester United is not the same club it was a year ago. And that’s something fans can feel hopeful about.
