Manchester United fans were excited to see new signing Bryan Mbeumo play in the pre-season game against West Ham in the United States. But to everyone’s surprise, Mbeumo didn’t play a single minute. Many fans were left wondering why the £71 million star from Brentford didn’t even make it onto the pitch.
Mbeumo joined Manchester United just one day before the team flew out to Chicago for their pre-season tour in the US. He was signed after a boring 0-0 draw against Leeds in Sweden. His signing was expected to boost the team’s attack.

Although Mbeumo has already trained with his new teammates and traveled with them to New Jersey, he was not included in the matchday squad. The game took place at the famous MetLife Stadium.
So, what happened? The reason is simple: Mbeumo is not yet match-fit. His former club Brentford started pre-season training a week later than Manchester United. That means Mbeumo is still catching up on his fitness compared to his new teammates.

Manchester United’s manager, Ruben Amorim, is known for being very strict about fitness. If a player is not fully ready, Amorim usually keeps them out of the team. This has happened before with other players, like Noussair Mazraoui, who also missed the West Ham match due to a small injury or “knock.”
Fans were also looking forward to seeing how the new team would perform. Another new signing, Matheus Cunha, who cost £62.5 million from Wolves, started the match. He played well and showed promise for the upcoming season.
The starting goalkeeper was Altay Bayindir because Andre Onana is dealing with an injury. In front of him were Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Ayden Heaven.
On the wings, Amad and Patrick Dorgu played as wing-backs. In the midfield, young talent Kobbie Mainoo joined Manuel Ugarte. The attacking line was made up of Bruno Fernandes, Rasmus Hojlund, and Cunha.
Manchester United won the match 2-1. Bruno Fernandes scored both goals for United, showing his leadership and skill. West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen scored once in the second half, but United held on for the win.
While fans were happy about the victory, they are still eager to see Mbeumo play. The next game is against Bournemouth on Wednesday, but Mbeumo is not expected to play in that match either.
Manager Ruben Amorim said he hopes to give Mbeumo his first minutes in the Sunday game against Everton. The plan is to make sure Mbeumo is fully fit before putting him on the field.
Even though he didn’t play, Mbeumo is excited to be part of Manchester United. When he signed, he said it was like a dream come true.
“As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity to sign for the club of my dreams,” he said. “This is the team whose shirt I wore growing up.”
Mbeumo also shared his mindset. “My mentality is to always be better than I was yesterday. I know I have the spirit and character to reach another level here.”
He added that working with Ruben Amorim and playing with world-class players will help him grow.
“Everybody told me about the environment here and how exciting the plans are for the future. This is a massive club, with an incredible stadium and amazing fans. We are all determined to fight for the biggest trophies.”
Manchester United fans are hoping that once Mbeumo is fully fit, he will bring his speed, creativity, and goals to the team. His time to shine is coming soon.
Until then, supporters will need to be patient. The season is long, and Mbeumo will surely have many chances to prove why he was worth £71 million.
