The total deal is worth £71 million, with £65 million guaranteed across four instalments and £6 million in performance-based add-ons. The transfer follows two failed bids, but United’s persistence, and Amorim’s influence, finally pushed the deal over the line.
Mbeumo, 25, has already agreed personal terms with United’s hierarchy, meaning the deal will now hinge on a medical, which is expected to take place in the coming days.

The winger was also on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar, a move that would have seen him reunite with former Brentford coach Thomas Frank, who joined Spurs earlier this summer. But Mbeumo made his intentions clear from the start: he wanted Manchester United.
Despite Spurs returning to the Champions League and United missing out on European football, Mbeumo’s commitment never wavered. He continued to train with professionalism throughout Brentford’s pre-season but communicated to all parties that Ruben Amorim’s United was his destination of choice.
Last season, Mbeumo scored 20 goals and provided 8 assists, appearing in every Premier League game for Brentford. Since his 2019 arrival, he has been instrumental in their rise to, and survival in, the Premier League.
With this move, Mbeumo becomes one of the most expensive signings of the summer window and a potential game-changer for United’s front line.
The Portuguese tactician Ruben Amorim, newly appointed United manager, is wasting no time reshaping the squad. Mbeumo’s signing is a strong signal of intent, as Amorim seeks to bring intensity, youth, and versatility back into the squad.
Earlier this window, United also secured young full-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño in Paraguay. Now with Mbeumo in the mix, Amorim’s blueprint for the club is beginning to take shape.
Manchester United will kick off their pre-season with a clash against Leeds United in Stockholm this Saturday. The squad then travels to the United States for friendlies against West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton, before returning home to host Fiorentina in their final warm-up game.
However, Amorim is expected to exclude several senior players from his travel list, including Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony, all of whom have reportedly been given permission to explore opportunities elsewhere.
