Burkina Faso — The Burkinabé Football Federation (FBF) has officially dismissed Brama Traoré as head coach of the Burkina Faso national football team alongside all his technical staff following the Stallions’ disappointing campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Traoré, 63, was appointed to lead the senior national team on 11 March 2024, taking over from French coach Hubert Velud with the task of revitalizing the squad and building on local coaching talent.
Under his leadership, Burkina Faso qualified for AFCON 2025, finishing second in their group. However, expectations were high ahead of the knockout stages, and the team’s 3–0 defeat to Ivory Coast in the Round of 16 was judged far below the targets set by the federation, which had hoped for at least a semi‑final berth.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the FBF announced it had terminated its collaboration with Traoré and his entire technical staff, thanking them for their service but stressing that performance at the continental showpiece fell short of national ambitions.
The federation also confirmed that a search for a new head coach will begin immediately as the Stallions prepare for upcoming qualifiers and future competitions.
Reactions among fans and football stakeholders have been mixed, with some acknowledging Traoré’s commitment to Burkina Faso football, while others argue fresh leadership is needed to take the national team forward.
