Shock in the Premier League as Man United Transfer Target Set to Join Arch Rival – Medical Imminent After Donnarumma Heartbreak

There has been a major twist in the Premier League transfer market as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, a player once linked to Manchester United, is now on the verge of joining their arch rivals Leeds United.

The 28-year-old striker has agreed a deal to sign for Leeds just two months after leaving Everton, and his medical is expected to take place imminently.

What makes the move even more dramatic is that it comes right after Manchester United missed out on signing Gianluigi Donnarumma. The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper had been a top target, but Manchester City are believed to have secured personal terms with him, leaving United to focus elsewhere.

Calvert-Lewin’s arrival could be perfectly timed, he might even make his Leeds debut against Everton, his former club, in a highly emotional Premier League clash next Monday night.

The deal marks the end of Calvert-Lewin’s nine-year stay at Goodison Park. He joined Everton from Sheffield United in 2016 and went on to play 273 games, scoring 71 goals.

His performances earned him a place in the England national team, where he played 11 times and scored four goals, even featuring at Euro 2020.

When confirming his departure from Everton in June, Calvert-Lewin shared an emotional Instagram post: “This isn’t something I chose lightly. Everton has been my home since I was 19-years-old. It’s the place that saw potential in me, challenged me to grow, and shaped me both as a footballer and as a man.”

This summer, Calvert-Lewin attracted interest from several big clubs, including Manchester United, AC Milan, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United. But Leeds moved quickly to strike a deal.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke has been vocal about the need for more firepower up front. Earlier this month, he said:

“In comparison to our Championship squad, we haven’t improved our offensive side. In order to be competitive for a long season, we definitely need signings for the offence, players who can score and assist. We are not prepared yet for the Premier League.”

Calvert-Lewin’s signing appears to be Farke’s answer to that problem. The striker is known for his aerial power, strength, and ability to hold the ball up, qualities Leeds have been missing.

For Leeds fans, this is a statement signing. Not only are they getting a proven Premier League striker, but they are also beating some top clubs to his signature.

The move is even more eye-catching given the recent Donnarumma heartbreak. Manchester United had been exploring a deal for the Italian goalkeeper, but Manchester City’s swift move ended those hopes. Instead, Leeds turned their attention to bolstering the attack.

Calvert-Lewin’s first match could not be more symbolic, returning to face Everton at Elland Road, wearing the colours of a direct Premier League rival.

Everton supporters will watch closely. Many will remember his crucial goals and commitment over nearly a decade, while others will see this as a bold career move.

For Calvert-Lewin himself, it’s a fresh start. Injuries have slowed him down in recent seasons, but this transfer gives him the chance to rediscover his best form and lead the line for Leeds in a new chapter.

The striker will also be aiming to impress England manager ahead of the World Cup next summer. Regular Premier League football and a strong season could put him back in contention for the national squad.

As for Leeds, they now have a player who knows the league, knows how to score, and has the experience to deliver in big matches.

The countdown to Monday’s clash is now even more exciting. Whether Calvert-Lewin scores against his old club or not, his debut will be one of the most talked-about moments of the early Premier League season.
