Renowned Kenyan comedian and outspoken activist Eric Omondi has declared that he will be on the ballot in the 2027 General Election, marking a bold transition from entertainment to elective politics.
Omondi made the revelation on Thursday, saying his decision is driven by frustration with the country’s leadership and a strong desire to champion the interests of young people, artists and the common mwananchi.

He noted that Kenya’s youth form the majority of the population yet remain largely excluded from key decision-making spaces.
“I am stepping forward to represent the people. The youth, creatives and ordinary Kenyans deserve leadership that understands their struggles,” Omondi said, adding that 2027 will be a turning point for the country.

Although he did not immediately disclose the specific seat he intends to vie for, Omondi hinted that his campaign will focus on accountability, economic empowerment and major governance reforms. He also called on young Kenyans to register as voters and actively participate in shaping the country’s future.

The comedian, who has in recent years positioned himself as a vocal critic of the government, has been at the forefront of protests highlighting the high cost of living, unemployment and the plight of struggling artists. His activism has seen him arrested several times, a move that has only amplified his profile as a protest figure.

Omondi’s announcement has sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters praising his courage and grassroots appeal, while critics question whether celebrity influence can translate into effective leadership.

If he follows through, Eric Omondi will join a growing list of entertainers and activists seeking elective office, signaling a possible shift in Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 polls.
