Couple Born on the Same Day Die Together in Heartbreaking Maai Mahiu–Naivasha Road Crash
A cloud of grief has engulfed family, friends and the nation following the tragic death of a married couple who were not only united in love, but also by fate, born on the same day and dying on the same day.
The couple, Sammy Jonnes Ndichu and his wife Nina Wambui Ndichu, lost their lives in a devastating road accident along the Maai Mahiu–Naivasha highway. The crash claimed both their lives instantly, cutting short a life story many have described as rare, beautiful and painfully symbolic.
What has left many Kenyans shaken is the chilling coincidence surrounding their lives. Sammy and Nina shared the same birthday, April 23, though born two years apart ;Sammy in 1993 and Nina in 1995.

The couple hailed from Ndakaini village in Gatanga, Murang’a County, and were well known and loved within their community. Sammy, an architect, was remembered as hardworking, humble and deeply devoted to his family, while Nina was described as warm, supportive and full of life.
Their deaths were confirmed by colleagues and family members, with professional body The Architects Alliance releasing a touching message mourning the loss of one of their own and his beloved wife.
In a painful twist, the couple leaves behind a young son, now forced to grow up without his parents. Friends and relatives have described the loss as unbearable, saying the two were inseparable in life, and fate ensured they remained so even in death.
A memorial service was later held as emotional tributes poured in, with many struggling to come to terms with the suddenness of the tragedy. The couple was eventually laid to rest together, a final symbol of the bond they shared.
