Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has sent a strong message to criminals and corrupt officials in Baringo County. On Saturday, July 26, Murkomen announced a major government crackdown targeting police officers and civil servants who are helping criminals behind the scenes.
He revealed that some officers and government workers are secretly supporting the sale of illegal alcohol in the region. Murkomen made it clear that the government will not tolerate such behavior anymore. Those found guilty will face the full force of the law.

The crackdown comes as part of the government’s bigger plan to end banditry and cattle rustling, which have caused insecurity and suffering for many people in Baringo. Murkomen warned residents who have illegal firearms to hand them over immediately. He said that a full disarmament operation is coming soon.
“I repeat my earlier warning to those holding illegal guns. Surrender them now before we begin a full-scale disarmament,” Murkomen said. “We will also act firmly against police officers and civil servants who are supporting the illegal alcohol trade.”

Murkomen also announced that the government is working to build more police stations and improve local infrastructure. He said that a strong police presence and better roads will help reduce crime and bring long-term peace to the region.
He explained that enhancing security will open doors for more development. According to Murkomen, Baringo is already showing signs of improvement thanks to “Operation Maliza Uhalifu” (Operation End Crime). This operation has helped to reduce violence, allowing schools to reopen and businesses to resume.
“Our efforts are already paying off,” Murkomen said. “Many schools have reopened, and local businesses are getting back on their feet.”
He added that the government is committed to better service delivery by creating more administrative units and improving the working conditions of police officers and National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs).
Murkomen’s announcement followed a major shake-up in the national security leadership. These changes are expected to bring more order and focus in handling banditry and other crimes across the country.
Jacob Namulen has been named the new Principal Administrative Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, alongside Beverly Opwora. Thomas Saka was appointed as the Ministry’s new Secretary, while Moses Kipkoech is the new Secretary of the National Administration.
Murkomen also appointed Dickson Liyayi as Secretary of Policy within the Ministry. Gilbert Kitiyo and Joshua Nkanatha were appointed as Regional Commissioners of Nairobi and Central Kenya, respectively.
These appointments show that the government is serious about strengthening its fight against crime. Murkomen believes that with the right people in key positions, the country will see a huge improvement in safety and security.
Residents of Baringo and other affected counties have suffered for years due to constant insecurity. Bandits and illegal arms have made daily life difficult, especially in rural areas. This latest move by Murkomen offers hope to the people who have long waited for peace and justice.
The CS also promised that his ministry will continue to support efforts that bring stability and development. This includes improving the welfare of officers on the ground and ensuring that every village has access to protection.
As the crackdown begins, all eyes will be on how the government handles corrupt officials and brings lasting peace to Baringo. For many citizens, this could be a turning point in their struggle for safety and a better life.
