In 2024, the church elders in Gede, Kilifi County, home to the famed Gedi Ruins and beautiful coastline, were formally handed the title deed for their church property. Gede, located about 16 km from Malindi (noted for the Vasco da Gama Pillar), now boasts this official recognition.

Among those pictured are members of the Council of Peter, the only group whose founding elders once met face-to-face with Baba Johane the legendary leader. Today, the council remains headquartered in Nairobi, carrying forward his legacy through successive generations of leadership.

This ceremony reflects Baba Johane’s long-held vision of establishing a church, or even a settlement, in Mombasa. Although the Gede congregation arose by chance and falls within Kilifi County rather than Mombasa, it draws worshippers from Malindi, Mombasa, Kilifi, and beyond. Since its founding, significant infrastructure has been developed to support the growing community (photos to follow).

Numerous powerful healings have occurred here, echoing the biblical story of the man in chains (Mark 5:1–21; Luke 8:26–40). Visitors arriving in various states of illness or bondage have departed fully restored—testimony to the transformative power of prayer. Unlike the dramatic “slain in the Spirit” scenes seen elsewhere, this ministry relies on steadfast prayer and heartfelt worship.

Key takeaway: God hears and answers prayers, often in His own timing rather than instantly.
