Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has publicly expressed regret over recent remarks he made about former U.S. President Donald Trump during a heated exchange on social media, marking a notable turn in their escalating political dispute.
Writing on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Musk said:
📢 Follow Us on Social Media
I regret some of the things I said about President Donald Trump last week. It went too far.
The statement comes just days after a highly public clash between the two prominent figures, triggered by Musk’s criticism of Trump’s proposed tax reform bill, which he described as “a shockingly disastrous plan.” The proposal, passed by the House of Representatives last month and currently under Senate review, includes sweeping tax cuts and increased military spending.

Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, urged American citizens to lobby their representatives in Congress to oppose the bill. He warned that its implementation could trigger an economic downturn in the latter half of the year though he provided no specific data to support the claim.
The feud escalated further when Musk alleged, without presenting evidence, that Trump’s name appears in undisclosed government documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, the late financier accused of sex trafficking who died in a federal jail cell in 2019. The White House dismissed Musk’s accusations as baseless and unfounded.
In response, Trump fired back on social media, branding Musk as someone who had “lost his mind.” The former president also threatened to terminate government contracts with Musk’s companies, which reportedly have a combined value of up to $38 billion.
This latest exchange marks a sharp deterioration in the relationship between Musk and Trump, both of whom have significant influence in American political and economic circles. Trump, who is vying for a return to the White House, declared the relationship over, saying he did not intend to reconcile with Musk.
While Musk has oscillated in his political views in recent years at times aligning with conservative ideologies and at others distancing himself from partisan labels his recent involvement in the national debate on tax and government spending suggests an increasing willingness to shape policy from his corporate platform.
Political analysts say Musk’s regret may be an attempt to de-escalate tensions, as his business interests remain deeply entwined with federal agencies and government contracts, particularly in space exploration, defense technology, and electric vehicle infrastructure.
As of now, neither Trump nor his campaign has issued a response to Musk’s statement of regret.
