Juventus have entered the race to sign Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres in a stunning twist to this summer’s transfer window, offering the Sporting Lisbon star a massive £11 million-a-year contract in an attempt to fend off interest from Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Arsenal.

With Gyokeres emerging as one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards, the Serie A giants are pulling out all the stops to secure his signature, so much so that they are reportedly preparing to sell eight first-team players to raise the funds required for the blockbuster deal.

According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Juventus are targeting a total transfer budget of approximately £85 million, generated through a massive squad clearout.

Among those up for sale are: Dusan Vlahovic, Douglas Luiz, Lloyd Kelly, Samuel Mbangula, Daniele Rugani, Filip Kostic, Mattia Perin, Arkadiusz Milik.

Vlahovic and Luiz alone could generate nearly £50 million, while the rest are expected to contribute significantly to Juve’s funding efforts. The goal? To meet Sporting’s £76.6 million valuation for Gyokeres and cover his proposed record-breaking salary.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal have shown long-term interest in Gyokeres, who netted 43 goals in all competitions last season. The 26-year-old’s physicality, technical prowess, and eye for goal make him a perfect fit for the English top flight.

But Juventus’ sudden, aggressive move may force both Premier League clubs to reassess their strategies or risk missing out on one of Europe’s deadliest strikers.

Despite mounting pressure, Sporting Lisbon have made their position crystal clear. Club president Frederico Varandas issued a firm statement warning suitors and agents alike:

“One thing you should already know is me better. Threats, blackmail and insults don’t work with me.
I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €60m+10m (£51m+£8.5m) because I never promised him that. This game that the agent is playing only makes the situation worse.
To this day, Sporting has not had an offer for Viktor Gyokeres, neither today nor last season.”

As the transfer saga intensifies, Gyokeres took to Instagram to address the rumors swirling around his future:

“There is a lot of talk at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right.”

His comments follow speculation that he was prepared to go on strike to force a move, a claim that has further complicated an already tense situation between his camp and Sporting’s management.

While Gyokeres remains their primary target, Juventus have also lined up alternatives in case the deal fails. Their shortlist reportedly includes: Randal Kolo Muani, who previously spent time on loan in Serie A, Jonathan David, now a free agent after leaving Lille, Victor Osimhen and Mateo Retegui, both considered but would command high fees.

Whether Juventus’ ambitious plan will be enough to lure Gyokeres away from both Sporting and Premier League interest remains to be seen. What’s clear is that the Italian giants are willing to reshape their squad entirely to bring the striker to Turin.

As the summer transfer window heats up, this saga could deliver even more twists before it’s over. For now, all eyes remain on Viktor Gyokeres, Europe’s most wanted man.
