News of his passing has sent shockwaves across the country, with former DP Gachagua himself expressing deep sorrow over the loss.
In a heartfelt tribute shared from the United States, where he is currently on a two-month visit, Gachagua described KK as “a content creator per excellence” and lamented the tragic end of a young man whose comedy had “spoken to the hearts of millions.”

“I have this morning woken up to the sad demise of Mr. Zachariah Kariuki alias Mr. KK Mwenyewe,” Gachagua wrote. “Mr. KK, a young, consistent, and resilient young man, used comedy to communicate simple and creative messages to all Kenyans and spoke to our hearts.”
KK Mwenyewe shot to fame in 2022 after sharing a viral video that hilariously portrayed Gachagua’s reaction to winning the general election. From his oversized suits and makeshift potbelly to his mastery of the politician’s tone and gestures, KK’s impersonations were not only accurate but profoundly entertaining.
The then-Kisii University student quickly became a household name, building a huge following online. His TikTok account soared to 1.1 million followers, while his Facebook page drew over 412,000 fans.
His skits, delivered with deadpan humor, reflected everyday Kenyan life and earned him admiration for blending satire with social commentary.
Beyond the laughs, KK’s journey wasn’t without hardship. In 2023, he made headlines when he struggled to pay his university tuition fees. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja stepped in and cleared his balance, allowing KK to continue with his studies and pursue his dream.
His final skit was posted on July 4, just eleven days before his passing, making his sudden death all the more devastating for fans who had followed his content religiously. The tragic news was confirmed by his friend and fellow comedian Kafengo, who shared that KK succumbed to a short illness.
As tributes continue to pour in from across the country, it’s clear that KK Mwenyewe was more than just a comedian.
He was a voice of the youth, a mirror of Kenyan society, and a rare talent who made people laugh even in the toughest of times. His authenticity, consistency, and creativity made him a rising star, one whose flame has gone out far too soon.
Kenya mourns not only a content creator but a cultural icon whose legacy will live on in laughter, memory, and the hearts he touched.
