A shocking event has left the people of Embu County in disbelief. A former MCA (Member of County Assembly) aspirant was shot dead while trying to escape from police custody.

The man, who had contested for the Kirimari Ward seat in the 2022 General Election, was being taken back to prison when the drama unfolded.

According to the police, he was not just a failed politician, he was also a suspect in a serious murder case.

Embu West Sub-county Police Commander, Vincent Kitili, confirmed the incident and said the man was in custody for murder and was being returned to Embu Prison.

What followed was like a scene from a movie.

The former aspirant was reportedly carrying pepper spray. While in the police van with other inmates, he suddenly used it on the officers.

The pepper spray blinded the officers, creating panic and confusion in the vehicle.

In the chaos, he jumped out of the van and started running. One police officer quickly followed him while others stayed back to guard the remaining prisoners.

The suspect ran into Gatondo village, trying to hide at a nearby construction site.

There, he found a machete and prepared to defend himself. Even though he was told to surrender, he refused.

Instead of giving up, he charged at the officer with the machete.

The police officer was left with no choice. He shot the suspect in self-defense, ending the dramatic escape.

Commander Kitili later praised the officer for his courage and quick response.

He said the officer was very brave for chasing an armed suspect alone and handling a life-threatening situation.

“This man was not just a politician. He was also a dangerous criminal,” Kitili told the press.

“He had already been profiled. We know he was connected to several gang activities, especially in Nairobi,” he added.

Reports suggest the man was the leader of a criminal group involved in bold robberies around Nairobi and its outskirts.

Kitili stressed that the suspect’s political background did not excuse his violent behavior.

The police boss thanked the officer again, saying, “He didn’t hesitate even when the suspect was climbing walls and waving a machete.”

The suspect’s body was taken to Embu Level 5 Mortuary.

People in Embu and beyond are still processing the news, shocked that a former political hopeful was involved in such a criminal lifestyle.

The incident has also raised questions about how the suspect managed to sneak pepper spray into the police van.

Was it a planned escape? Did he have help?

Investigations are ongoing to find out how he got the weapon and how he planned the attack.

Meanwhile, residents are left wondering about the thin line between politics and crime.

This incident is a chilling reminder that appearances can be deceiving, and that anyone, even a former politician, can be hiding a dark side.

As the case unfolds, many are hoping for tighter security and better screening procedures to prevent such incidents from happening again.
