Kenya’s political scene just took an interesting turn. President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga have announced a new five-member committee to implement the important National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report. One name in this team is already making waves: Gabriel Oguda.

Gabriel Oguda is known for his sharp commentary on social media and his columns in national newspapers. Now, he has a new role, helping shape Kenya’s political future.

This surprise announcement was made on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Both Ruto and Raila confirmed the appointment through a joint statement. They called the team “a vital bridge” to bring real change based on the promises made in their 10-Point Agenda.

Oguda will not be working alone. The team has five people, and it will be led by former nominated Senator Fatuma Ibrahim. Other members include Kevin Kiarie and political analyst Javas Bigambo, both respected voices in political circles.

The team’s job? To make sure that the 10-Point Agenda agreed upon by Ruto and Raila is turned into action. This means talking to different people, listening to ideas, and ensuring the NADCO report doesn’t gather dust on a shelf.

They will also be supported by a joint secretariat made up of officials from both Ruto’s UDA party and Raila’s ODM party. This secretariat will handle the technical and daily operations of the committee, so the five members can focus on big decisions.

According to the statement, the committee’s work is already starting. They will give a progress report every two months to both Ruto and Raila. There will also be a bigger update every three months to the joint Kenya Kwanza-ODM Parliamentary Group.

The first meeting of this parliamentary group is planned for Monday, August 18, 2025. All eyes will be on that meeting as it will set the tone for the committee’s work.

The committee is also expected to publish a final report on March 7, 2026. That date is important, it marks exactly one year since Ruto and Raila signed their political agreement.

Funding for the committee has been secured. Both UDA and ODM have promised to support the team financially. This means the committee will not be slowed down by money problems or government red tape.

One key focus of the committee will be implementing the NADCO report. This report came about after a very tense time in Kenya, when Raila Odinga led major anti-government protests in 2023. At the time, he was leading the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

To calm the country and avoid more clashes, both sides agreed to sit down and talk. That’s how the National Dialogue Committee, or NADCO, was born.

NADCO was chaired by opposition leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah. Their job was to lead structured talks and suggest reforms to strengthen democracy in Kenya.

The NADCO report includes ideas about fixing the electoral system, reforming the police, and making politics less divisive. Many Kenyans are hoping this new five-member committee will make those ideas a reality.

But the big question remains: Can this team succeed where many others have failed? Will real change happen, or will this be just another committee with big promises and little action?

Gabriel Oguda’s inclusion adds both excitement and pressure. He is well-known for speaking truth to power. Now, he’s part of the system he once criticized. Will he still speak boldly, or will the system silence him?

The presence of respected figures like Fatuma Ibrahim and Javas Bigambo adds weight to the team. But success will depend on how well the team works together and whether they are allowed to act without interference.

Ruto and Raila working together is itself a rare political moment. The Kenyan public will be watching closely to see if this partnership is real, or just political theatre.

For now, the ball is rolling. The committee is in place. The roadmap is set. The funding is there. What remains is delivery.

Kenya has waited too long for reforms. With the NADCO report in hand and public support behind them, this five-member committee has a chance to make history.

But as always in Kenyan politics, there’s a catch.
