On Sunday, July 20, 2025, a security meeting was held at Stade de l’Unité in Goma, bringing together motorcycle taxi riders (commonly known as abamotari) from across the city. The meeting was presided over by Governor Bahati Erasto, who leads North Kivu province under the authority of the AFC/M23 coalition.
The purpose of the gathering was to encourage motorcycle taxi riders to actively contribute to maintaining security in Goma and to distance themselves from individuals who disguise themselves as abamotari while engaging in criminal activities, including armed robbery.
During the meeting, the riders expressed their willingness to collaborate with local authorities and AFC/M23 forces in combating violence and theft affecting civilians. They also pledged to provide timely information and to refrain from associating with armed groups that infiltrate the community under the guise of being taxi riders.
