The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has taken decisive action against several public service vehicle (PSV) operators, suspending their licences and ordering fleets off Kenya’s roads after investigations linked them to fatal crashes and persistent regulatory breaches.
Major Operators Suspended
NTSA has suspended the operating licences of the following transport companies with immediate effect:
Monna Comfort Sacco
Greenline Company Ltd
Naekana Route 134 Sacco Ltd
Uwezo Coast Shuttle
These companies were linked to multiple fatal road accidents during the December 2025 festive season and early January 2026, prompting the regulator to take action to protect passenger safety.
Drivers Penalised and Licences Cancelled
In addition to grounding operators, NTSA has cancelled PSV endorsements and suspended the driving licences of more than 90 drivers involved in speed violations and crashes. These drivers will be required to re-test before they can return to the road.
Compliance Window for Some Operators
Two other companies, Guardian Coach Ltd and Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd, were spared immediate suspension but have been given a 21-day ultimatum to meet strict safety and compliance conditions or risk similar bans.
Safety Standards at the Centre of the Crackdown
Authorities cited widespread non-compliance with critical safety regulations, including failure to meet speed limiter standards and breaches of the NTSA PSV Regulations (2014).
The move signals a tougher enforcement stance meant to curb reckless practices and improve road safety.
“Members of the public are hereby advised not to board vehicles belonging to the suspended companies,” NTSA warned, urging passengers to prioritize safety.
Impact on Public Transport
The suspensions affect key long-distance routes and raise concerns among commuters about travel disruptions, especially as the crackdown continues ahead of the busy travel season.
