The government has issued a stern warning to the public following the circulation of a disturbing video involving Marion Naipei, a 22-year-old Nairobi woman, urging Kenyans to stop sharing the clip as investigations continue.
According to reports, Marion was captured on video while at a Nairobi entertainment spot in what authorities describe as a vulnerable state. The footage, which later went viral on social media, was allegedly recorded and circulated without her consent, raising serious concerns over privacy, dignity and online abuse.
Marion has since spoken out, stating that the video was taken without her knowledge and that its circulation has caused her immense emotional distress. She reported the matter to the police, prompting investigations into the circumstances under which the footage was recorded and who was responsible for its spread.
The warning was issued by the Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services, with the statement delivered by Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot Cheptumo. The CS strongly condemned the circulation of the video, terming it a violation of Marion’s constitutional rights to dignity and privacy.
“The continued sharing of such content amounts to cyber harassment and may attract serious legal consequences,” the ministry warned, citing existing laws on data protection, cybercrime and privacy.
The incident is reported to have occurred earlier this month, with the video gaining widespread traction online over the weekend before January 18, 2026, when the government issued its official statement.
Authorities have urged members of the public to exercise restraint online, avoid circulating unverified or harmful material, and allow investigators to carry out their work. Relevant agencies are now reviewing the footage to establish its source and determine whether criminal charges will be preferred against those involved.
As the case unfolds, the government has reiterated its commitment to protecting victims of digital abuse and cracking down on the reckless misuse of social media platforms.
