Residents have been ordered indoors at night after the government announced a dusk-to-dawn curfew ahead of Christmas Eve,following renewed violence that has left families displaced,homes destroyed and lives lost.
The security directive,announced by county commissioner,comes amid rising tensions and deadly clashes that have triggered fear and uncertainty as the festive season approaches. Authorities say the move is aimed at restoring calm, protecting lives and preventing further bloodshed.
The curfew, which runs daily from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am,applies to Transmara West and Transmara South sub-counties in Narok County,which have been officially declared security-disturbed areas.
Several villages and trading centres have been affected by the unrest,with reports of houses torched,property destroyed and residents forced to flee for safety.
Local humanitarian assessments indicate that more than 1,800 people have been displaced,many of them women and children.
Security agencies have been deployed in large numbers to the affected areas to enforce the curfew and conduct peace operations.In addition,the government has issued a 72-hour ultimatum for residents to surrender illegal firearms, warning that those who fail to comply will face firm action.

Authorities say they are working closely with local leaders, elders and peace committees to de-escalate tensions and allow displaced families to safely return home once calm is restored.
