A web of chilling revelations is unfolding around the mysterious death of blogger Albert Omondi Ojwang, with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) now suggesting it may have been a premeditated killing orchestrated inside Nairobi’s Central Police Station.
A closed-door meeting between IPOA and the National Assembly’s Security Committee reportedly laid bare a disturbing chain of events that began before Ojwang even arrived in Nairobi from Homa Bay.

According to sources familiar with the high-level meeting, IPOA believes that Ojwang’s death was planned well in advance. Before he reached the station, petty offenders were mysteriously cleared from the cell he was set to occupy, and it’s alleged that access was granted to individuals involved in his fatal assault.
One senior police officer, whose official shift ended at 8pm, suspiciously remained at the station until 3am. IPOA says the officer later justified his presence by stating he “had a job to do.” That same officer has since recorded a statement and is under active investigation.

Ojwang, known for his vocal online presence, was arrested after Deputy Inspector-General Eliud Lagat filed a complaint over supposedly defamatory content posted on Ojwang’s X (formerly Twitter) account. His wife confirmed he was in perfect health during a phone call after arriving at the police station.
But that would be the last time she heard from him.
In the hours that followed, Ojwang was isolated, subjected to intense interrogation, and allegedly tortured to the point of becoming unresponsive.
In a further damning twist, a technician is said to have deleted critical CCTV footage, raising the stakes in what is increasingly looking like a coordinated cover-up. IPOA believes that four officers physically propped up Ojwang’s body to make it appear he was alive while being removed from his cell.
But a medical report from Mbagathi Hospital crushed any illusions, Ojwang arrived dead, his body marked by visible bruises.
Among those now under investigation are Police Constable James Mukhwana and OCS Samson Taalam, both central to the night’s operations. IPOA has formally requested 21 more days from the court to detain Mukhwana as investigations continue.
DIG Eliud Lagat, whose complaint triggered Ojwang’s arrest, may also be summoned for questioning if investigators uncover links between him and the events that led to the blogger’s death.
The emerging details have sparked public outrage, with Kenyans on social media demanding justice, transparency, and a thorough cleanup of a police system many say is riddled with impunity.
The pressure is now squarely on IPOA and Parliament to ensure this case doesn’t quietly vanish into the archives of forgotten deaths.
