Football fans are watching closely as Arsenal and Manchester United enter the final stage of a huge transfer battle. Both clubs are trying to sign star striker Viktor Gyokeres, and now, it looks like something big is happening.

After weeks of delay and drama, Sporting Lisbon has agreed a deal to sign Luis Suarez from Almeria, a strong sign that they are ready to let Gyokeres go.

This is a major breakthrough in what has become one of the biggest stories of the summer transfer window. And the drama is far from over.

Viktor Gyokeres is one of the most in-form strikers in Europe. Since joining Sporting Lisbon from Coventry in 2023, he has scored an incredible 97 goals in just 102 games.

His speed, strength, and goal-scoring ability have made him a top target for several clubs. But it’s Arsenal and Manchester United who are fighting the hardest to get him.

Arsenal made the first move. The club is in urgent need of a reliable striker to lead their attack. Mikel Arteta sees Gyokeres as the perfect fit for their system.

But now, Manchester United has entered the race, hoping to hijack the deal. Reports say United has made a late approach with a tempting offer.

The competition is fierce, and both clubs are under pressure to deliver for their fans.

The breakthrough came when Sporting Lisbon opened talks with Spanish side Almeria over the signing of Luis Suarez. Suarez, who played for Watford in the past, was the top scorer in Spain’s second division last season with 27 goals in 41 matches.

He has a €40 million (£34.6m) release clause, and Sporting is moving fast to finalize the deal.

This shows that Sporting Lisbon is preparing to sell Gyokeres. A club does not spend that much on a new striker unless they are replacing someone important.

But Sporting Lisbon is not giving up Gyokeres without a fight. Club president Frederico Varandas has made his position clear. He said:

“If they don’t want to pay Viktor’s fair market value, we’re very comfortable with that for the next three years.”

He added that no promises were made to Gyokeres and that his agent’s tactics are making things worse.

“Threats, blackmail, and insults won’t work with me. I can guarantee Viktor will not leave for €60m + €10m. I never agreed to that,” Varandas insisted.

The situation has now reached a boiling point. Gyokeres has reportedly gone on strike, refusing to report for pre-season training with the club.

His legal team has sent a letter to Sporting, blaming the club president for blocking his move and breaking previous agreements.

This has pushed things forward quickly, with both Arsenal and Manchester United now on high alert.

Arsenal still believes they are ahead in the race. They’ve been working on this deal for weeks and remain confident that Gyokeres wants to play in North London.

But Manchester United believes they can offer more. Bigger wages, a huge club brand, and the chance to be the main striker at Old Trafford may tempt the Swedish forward.

This transfer has now turned into a dramatic tug-of-war between two English giants.

As for Sporting Lisbon, they are focused on completing the Luis Suarez deal as quickly as possible. Once that deal is sealed, Gyokeres will likely be allowed to leave.

Fans from both Arsenal and Manchester United are glued to their screens, hoping for official news.

This isn’t just a signing. It could be a game-changing move for whichever club wins the race.

The clock is ticking. The transfer window is open, but it won’t stay that way forever.

With so many moving pieces, only one thing is clear: It’s Happening. The breakthrough is real. The striker is ready to go. And now, the only question is: Arsenal or Manchester United?

Stay tuned for more updates. This story is moving fast.
