In a dramatic shake-up of Kenya’s political landscape, Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Democratic Movement has officially rebranded to the Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF), igniting fresh speculation and excitement ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The announcement, made by Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu, was formalized in a gazette notice, inviting any objections within seven days. This rebrand is more than a cosmetic change; it signals a major strategic shift for the party, which has been a key player in Kenyan politics since its inception in 2006.

Kalonzo Musyoka revealed that the new name is a tribute to the Gen Z activists who tragically lost their lives during the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests. By aligning the party with the youth and their demands for justice and accountability, WPF aims to capture the energy of a new generation of voters.

Kalonzo’s move follows a growing trend among opposition leaders. Martha Karua recently transformed NARC-K into the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), complete with a new slogan, colours, and a purple rose symbol. Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua launched the Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP) after his exit from UDA, unveiling a neon green and white emblem and the catchy slogan “Skiza Wakenya.”

The rebrand is widely seen as a strategic play to boost voter registration, especially among young Kenyans, and to position WPF as a patriotic, progressive force in the run-up to the 2027 polls. With political temperatures rising and alliances shifting, all eyes are on Kalonzo and his newly minted Wiper Patriotic Front.
