Kenya will host the 2025 Africa Public Service Day (APSD) from June 10 to 12 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, with a strong focus on innovation and institutional resilience.
Spearheaded by the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, the three-day gathering will bring together ministries, agencies, and county governments under the theme: “Enhancing the Agility and Resilience of Public Institutions to Achieve Equitable Governance and Rapidly Address Historical Service Delivery Gaps.”

This theme reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to drive inclusive, tech-driven reforms in public service and close long-standing gaps in service access and efficiency.
A key feature of the event will be an exhibition showcasing breakthrough innovations from across government institutions. These homegrown solutions have improved internal operations, broadened service access, and promoted transparency. The most impactful innovations will be considered for presentation at the continental APSD event later this month in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In a circular to public bodies, Dr. Jane Jere Imbunya, Principal Secretary for Public Service, encouraged broad participation. She emphasized that APSD 2025 offers a valuable opportunity for visibility, knowledge-sharing, and reflection on public service progress, particularly in areas such as digital transformation and inclusive governance.
In addition to the exhibition, a national symposium will bring together leaders, academics, and experts for in-depth discussions on institutional reforms and system strengthening. These dialogues will explore how innovation, citizen participation, and resilience in public institutions support accountability and transparency.
“This year, we’re shifting focus from individual sectors to the systems that support them,” said Dr. Imbunya. “It’s about identifying what truly makes public institutions adaptive and inclusive.”
Unlike previous years that spotlighted specific sectors such as education or agriculture, the 2025 event will delve into the structural foundations of public service institutions.
By hosting the event earlier than the continental celebration, Kenya aims to create space for more meaningful reflection, documentation, and preparation.
Africa Public Service Day, first observed in 1994, was established by African Ministers of Public and Civil Service to celebrate excellence and promote innovation in public administration. Kenya’s 2025 celebration upholds this tradition, reaffirming its leadership in public sector reform and its dedication to equitable governance for all.
