Kenya’s political temperature is once again on the rise as opposition leaders launch a scathing attack on President William Ruto, accusing his administration of gross mismanagement, failed promises, and economic neglect.

Speaking during a joint press briefing in Nairobi, senior figures from the Azimio coalition and other opposition parties painted a grim picture of a nation “on the brink,” blaming the Kenya Kwanza government for what they described as unprecedented policy failures.

“Kenya is not suffering from lack of resources; it’s suffering from lack of leadership,” said one opposition figure, condemning the government’s handling of agriculture, health, and education sectors.

The opposition claims that Ruto’s economic reforms, once branded as the “bottom-up transformation agenda”, have instead deepened inequality, increased unemployment, and eroded the purchasing power of ordinary Kenyans. Farmers, they say, are struggling with the high cost of fertilizer and falling crop prices, while hospitals remain underfunded and understaffed.

Critics have also turned their focus to the education sector, where persistent strikes, delayed capitation funds, and curriculum confusion have left parents and teachers frustrated. “Our children’s future is being mortgaged by corruption and incompetence,” one lawmaker lamented, calling for urgent parliamentary oversight.

Beyond domestic issues, the opposition also accuses President Ruto of prioritizing international image over local welfare. Frequent foreign trips, they argue, have yielded little tangible benefit for ordinary citizens, even as public debt continues to soar.

“You cannot travel the world selling a vision while your own people are sinking in poverty,” another opposition leader remarked, sparking loud applause from the crowd.

Meanwhile, State House officials have dismissed the accusations as political theatrics, insisting that the government’s economic strategy is on course and that reforms take time to yield visible results.

Still, discontent is mounting among Kenyans grappling with the rising cost of living, tax burdens, and shrinking job opportunities. Across social media platforms, frustration is palpable, with many echoing the opposition’s sentiment that the government has lost touch with the struggles of the common citizen.

As the political standoff intensifies, observers warn that unless the government rebuilds public trust and delivers on its pledges, Kenya could face growing instability and civic unrest.

For now, President Ruto’s administration stands at a crossroads, caught between the urgency to restore confidence and the growing public anger demanding accountability.
