In an official notice, CA Director General David Mugonyi stated that the live coverage violates Articles 33(2) and 34(1) of the Constitution of Kenya, as well as Section 461 of the Kenya Information and Communications Act of 1998.

“The live coverage of the June 25th, 2025, demonstrations is contrary to Articles 33(2) and 34(1) of the Constitution of Kenya and Section 461 of the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998,” the notice read.

The Authority warned that regulatory action would be taken against any station that defies the order.

“This is therefore to direct all television and radio stations to stop any live coverage of the demonstrations forthwith. Failure to abide by this directive will result in regulatory action as stipulated in the Kenya Information and Communications Act, 1998,” it added.

Meanwhile, chaos erupted in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) on Wednesday morning as protesters clashed with anti-riot police. The demonstrators, who took to the streets to commemorate the anniversary of last year’s deadly anti-finance bill protests, were met with tear gas canisters as tensions quickly escalated.
