Kenya Power has issued a serious warning to the public: fraudsters are impersonating their Managing Director, Joseph Siror, to steal money from innocent people.
The energy giant said that these criminals are pretending to be Siror and are tricking Kenyans by promising electricity services in exchange for cash. Many victims have already been conned and have lost their hard-earned money.

In a public notice released on Friday, August 1, Kenya Power reminded customers to only pay for electricity services using official channels. These include mobile money platforms like M-Pesa, official banks, and Kenya Power’s own banking halls.
“We wish to alert the public and our esteemed customers to fraudulent individuals impersonating our Managing Director, Joseph Siror, while soliciting bribes and other illegal favours,” the notice stated.

Kenya Power was clear: they do not ask for bribes. The company has a strong policy against corruption and unethical behavior. They warned all Kenyans not to trust anyone asking for money outside of their official payment systems.
If someone asks you for money while claiming to be from Kenya Power, or even claiming to be Joseph Siror himself, don’t fall for it.
The company has advised Kenyans to report any strange or suspicious behavior immediately to the nearest police station or Kenya Power office.
You can also verify if someone works for Kenya Power by dialing *977# on your phone. This code helps customers confirm the identity of any person claiming to be from the company.
“Let us work together to safeguard our community from fraudsters. Do not be played. Beware of conmen. Kenya Power does not ask for personal details,” the notice continued.
This warning comes only a few weeks after Kenya Power made headlines for firing over 20 junior staff members in a major corruption scandal.
These employees were allegedly involved in stealing a massive amount of fuel, 1.1 million litres, worth around Ksh207 million.
Some of them worked together with guards and drivers to carry out the theft, according to the company’s internal investigations.
The stolen fuel was meant to supply power to off-grid power stations in Turkana, a region that heavily depends on fuel for electricity.
Auditor General Nancy Gathungu revealed that the fuel theft happened between October 2021 and December 2023, a period of over two years.
This is not the first time Kenya Power has faced internal problems. But the company has shown that it is serious about cleaning up and protecting both its image and its customers.
By taking action against fraud and corruption, both inside and outside the organization, Kenya Power is sending a strong message: the company will not tolerate any form of dishonesty.
Still, it’s now up to Kenyans to stay alert and avoid falling victim to criminals pretending to offer quick fixes or backdoor services.
If someone offers you a “deal” that sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Be careful. Pay only through official Kenya Power channels. And remember: Joseph Siror will never call you asking for money.
Stay safe. Share this message. Let’s stop the scammers together.
