Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki has issued a stern warning to political leaders who he says are deliberately frustrating President William Ruto’s ongoing efforts to unite the nation. In a powerful message delivered during a public security forum, Kindiki said that Kenya cannot make progress if leaders continue to fan division while the government is working to calm political temperatures.
Kindiki emphasized that the country stands at a turning point, one that requires “responsible leadership, collective discipline, and honest patriotism.” He condemned what he described as a growing habit by some leaders of weaponizing politics and sabotaging the President’s outreach to communities across the country.
According to the CS, national unity is no longer a luxury but a survival needs, especially with the country facing mounting social, economic, and security challenges. He said the President’s reconciliation tours across counties were meant to build bridges, reduce hostility and encourage dialogue, but warned that a few individuals were intentionally poisoning the political space for personal gain.
Kindiki urged such leaders to reflect on their roles and remember that their actions risk destabilizing communities that have only recently enjoyed relative calm. He added that the government is determined to prevent a repeat of the tensions that previously threatened national stability.
