Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has publicly addressed recent criticisms from Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, urging restraint but warning against what he called “unprovoked falsehoods.”
The tension began over the weekend when Kalonzo dismissed reports of possible cooperation with Kindiki and the Kenya Kwanza government. During a Sunday morning statement, Kalonzo dismissed the overtures as political posturing meant to “destabilise the United Opposition,” going as far as referring to Kindiki as “Mr Half Term.”

In a swift yet composed response, Kindiki acknowledged Kalonzo’s remarks but chose a measured approach, avoiding a public confrontation.
“I hear my big brother Kalonzo has said he doesn’t wish to work with me politically. That is fine with me. For the unkind things he has said about me, I won’t answer him back publicly, not because I can’t, but because I never do public duels with people I respect,” Kindiki stated.

However, the deputy president made it clear that while he respected Kalonzo as a longtime political figure, he would not remain silent if provoked further.
“If he continues with his falsehoods unprovoked, I will happily tackle him head-on. Respect is a two-way street,” he added. “For now, Kalonzo will remain the good big brother I have known for decades.”
Despite the fallout, Kindiki emphasized that his focus remained on the government’s development agenda. He assured Kenyans that political noise would not derail his efforts to serve all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.
“The Government’s development agenda for all the people of this nation will continue undeterred, irrespective of who is working with whom for whatever objective,” he affirmed.
Kalonzo’s remarks also referenced recent tragic events, including the death of 21-year-old Albert Ojwang while in police custody, which he used to criticize the current administration’s handling of dissent.
“I cannot work with or meet up with people with Gen Z blood on their hands, including that of Albert Ojwang. Kenyans know the truth, Mr HalfTam: I will always be on the side of the people,” Kalonzo said in a strongly worded statement.
Political analysts have warned that this escalating rhetoric could signal deeper fractures within the opposition, especially with the 2027 general elections on the horizon. A recent report by The Standard suggested Kalonzo may be reconsidering his political alliances, a move that could significantly reshape the opposition’s unity strategy.
As the political landscape shifts, eyes remain fixed on both leaders, one asserting authority within government, the other holding firm to an opposition stance rooted in protest and accountability.
