Vital Kamerhe, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), has been named among individuals allegedly involved in a plot to assassinate President Félix Tshisekedi.

This revelation comes just days after several high-ranking Congolese officials were arrested in connection with the same conspiracy. Among those detained is General Christian Tshiwewe, the former Chief of Staff of the Congolese Armed Forces and, more recently, the President’s top military advisor. Also arrested was the former head of military operations at the presidential palace and several other senior military officers.

According to reports, the detainees are accused of orchestrating a plan to eliminate the head of state. The accusations intensified when General Tshiwewe, currently in custody under the presidential security agency, allegedly implicated Vital Kamerhe during interrogation.

In a reported statement, Tshiwewe is quoted as saying: “As a man of conscience and faith, I feel compelled to tell the whole truth. Vital Kamerhe, the Speaker of the National Assembly, was fully aware of the plot to assassinate the President.”

As of now, Kamerhe has not been arrested, unlike Tshiwewe and the other military officials. However, the allegations against him have triggered political shockwaves within the Congolese leadership and raised uncertainty about the country’s political future.

Beyond the political fallout, the incident has also stirred national concern, with many citizens voicing alarm over the implications for the DRC’s security and stability.
