Liverpool manager Arne Slot has finally given fans a fresh update in the ongoing Alexander Isak transfer drama, and it’s big news.

The Premier League champions are still chasing the Newcastle striker, but Slot has made it clear: they’re playing a careful game.

Speaking ahead of the Community Shield, Slot confirmed that Darwin Nunez’s transfer to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal is almost complete. That could open the door for a new superstar striker at Anfield.

Fans believe that man could be Alexander Isak. Liverpool already tried to sign him with a massive £120 million bid, but Newcastle turned it down.

The question now is: will Liverpool go back with an even bigger offer?

Slot was careful with his words. “We never talk about players that aren’t ours,” he told reporters.

Instead, he spoke about Hugo Ekitike, the young forward they have already signed this summer. “We are very happy with the squad we have,” he added. “Okay, players left but we brought players in as well. The youngsters are doing good.” He said.

But he did not deny the Isak rumours. Instead, he simply said, “Darwin might leave but things aren’t signed yet. We need to wait a few days before things are done.”

Meanwhile, things are tense at Newcastle. Isak has been training with his old club Real Sociedad instead of joining Newcastle’s pre-season tour in Asia.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was firm about the situation. “You have to earn the right to train with us,” Howe said. “The player has a responsibility here to be part of a team and act in the right way.”

Howe’s comments suggest there might be issues behind the scenes with Isak’s attitude or commitment.

At the same time, Liverpool are preparing for life without Mohamed Salah during the Africa Cup of Nations later this season.

Slot revealed that one of their new signings, Jeremie Frimpong, could play as a right winger when Salah is away. “It’s partly why we brought in Frimpong,” Slot explained.

That means Liverpool could have a new front three combination at some point, possibly with Isak leading the line.

Before that, all eyes are on the Community Shield this Sunday at Wembley. Liverpool face Crystal Palace in what could be a big first test for their new squad.

Fans will get to see new signings Frimpong, Ekitike and Florian Wirtz in action. Slot says the pre-season matches against Bilbao, Milan and Yokohama have already helped the team prepare.

But Crystal Palace are no easy opponent. “They hit the ground running again,” Slot said. “It’s still the same team. A good challenge for us to start the season.”

Liverpool’s transfer window is far from over. With Nunez leaving and Salah set to miss matches later in the season, there is room, and maybe a big need, for one more attacking superstar.

If that man is Alexander Isak, this could be one of the biggest transfers of the summer.

The only question now is: will Liverpool meet Newcastle’s demands, or will they walk away from the deal?

For now, the waiting game continues.
