In a significant moment for the Mahoro Peace Association (MPA), the organization has completed a seamless leadership transition that marks the beginning of a new chapter in its two-decade journey of peacebuilding and community development.
The outgoing team, led with distinction by Adele Kibasumba and Jado Ndaruhuye, has officially handed over responsibilities to the newly elected leadership team headed by Douglas G. Kabunda and Dr. Clement Bagaza. This smooth transition reflects MPA’s commitment to continuity, purpose-driven leadership, and democratic governance within the organization.

Earlier, on 12 June 2025, the incoming President Douglas G. Kabunda, expressed humility and determination in his inaugural statement on X:
“Dear members of the Mahoro Peace Association, I am deeply honored and humbled to accept the role of President of this remarkable organization. Thank you for your trust and confidence in me. This is not just a personal milestone—it is a collective affirmation of our shared commitment to peace, unity, and progress.”
Kabunda extended appreciation to his fellow candidates and campaign team, acknowledging their role in strengthening the democratic spirit and solidarity within the MPA. He also paid tribute to the outgoing executive committee, pledging to build on the foundation they laid.

Founded in 2004 following the tragic Gatumba massacre, MPA was born out of a necessity to respond to violence and injustice, particularly in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Over the years, it has evolved into a respected and impactful community-based organization with a dual mission: to promote peace and development in the DRC, and to support the well-being and integration of its diaspora members in the United States.
With over 7,000 members spread across more than 45 U.S. states, MPA is one of the most organized and active Congolese diaspora groups in North America.
MPA operates through a structured leadership that includes a Board of Directors, an Executive Committee, and State Representatives, ensuring broad representation and local engagement.
The installation of Douglas G. Kabunda and Dr. Clement Bagaza. represents not only a change in leadership but also a renewed sense of purpose for MPA. As the new team embarks on their three-year mandate, the entire MPA community is hopeful and energized to continue advancing the organization’s mission.
With unity, dedication, and community participation, MPA remains steadfast in its role as a beacon of peace, empowerment, and resilience for Congolese communities at home and abroad.
MPA’s work is driven by compassion, unity, and a deep commitment to justice. Some of the key activities include:
Supporting MPA members in the U.S. with integration efforts, development opportunities, and community building.
Organizing interest groups such as youth, women, men, and religious leaders to promote leadership and capacity development.
Providing humanitarian aid to victims of armed conflict in Eastern DRC.
Supporting widows, orphans, and those wounded in conflict, including survivors of sexual violence.
Advocating for equal rights, peace, and reconciliation both within the diaspora and across conflict-affected communities in the DRC.
