In Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, a dramatic and heartbreaking event happened that shocked an entire community. It took place in the Kicukiro District, in the Gatenga Sector, Nyarurama Cell, in a village called Bigongo. A man named Salim, who lives there, went through a very painful moment that turned into a major incident.

It all happened around 11:00 in the morning on a Saturday. Salim returned to his home, which is also where he runs a bar. But when he walked in, he found something no one ever wants to see. His wife was inside the bar, not just with another man, but having sex with him.

The shock was too much. Salim was deeply hurt and confused. The pain quickly turned into anger. A big argument broke out between Salim, his wife, and the other man. The shouting turned into a physical fight. In the heat of the moment, the bar was destroyed, chairs were thrown, bottles smashed, and property broken.

After the fight ended, Salim couldn’t hold back his emotions. Feeling betrayed and humiliated, he made a decision that shocked everyone around him.

Salim ran outside and jumped into a nearby drainage ditch. This was not just any ditch, it was six meters deep. His intention was clear: he wanted to end his life.

Luckily, people nearby saw what happened. Residents quickly rushed to the scene. They pulled him out of the ditch. He was badly injured but still alive.

Emergency workers arrived shortly after. They gave Salim first aid and rushed him to the hospital. His injuries were serious, but doctors were able to save him.

After the incident, more details began to emerge. Some people claimed that Salim was not legally married to the woman. They said he had also entered the woman’s life without a formal commitment. Others mentioned that the woman had a reputation for being involved with multiple men.

Despite this background, the community was united in one belief, Salim’s decision was wrong.

Many people in the area were deeply disturbed by his actions. They said that no matter how hurt he was, Salim should not have tried to take his own life. They believe there are always better ways to solve problems.

One man from the neighborhood said, “That was foolish. He embarrassed all men. Taking your own life because of a woman is not the answer. If he had died, the woman would still be alive, enjoying life.”

Another resident added, “If it were me, I wouldn’t do what he did. I would let them finish their business and later deal with the matter calmly.”

Others suggested that once Salim recovers from his injuries, he should face legal action. They argue that trying to kill himself was a crime, and the law should take its course.

This sad incident has started many conversations in Kigali. People are talking about relationships, betrayal, and mental health. Some are asking if the woman should also face questions for her actions.

Mental health experts in Rwanda are using this case as a wake-up call. They say that people need more support when they face emotional pain. Talking to counselors, family, or friends can save lives.

They also remind the public that love, pain, and betrayal are part of human life. But no situation should push someone to end their life. There is always hope. There is always help.

Salim’s story is a painful reminder of how deep emotions can lead to dangerous decisions. But it is also a chance for the community to reflect and learn.

As Salim recovers in the hospital, many are hoping he gets emotional and psychological support. They also hope he learns to deal with pain in a healthier way.

This event has left a mark on the Bigongo Village and beyond. But it may also open the door for more conversations about love, mental health, and how to heal from betrayal.
