Manchester United’s summer rebuild under new manager Ruben Amorim is losing momentum, as their ambitious transfer plans hit a major snag.

While the Red Devils made headlines by splashing £62.5 million on Matheus Cunha from Wolves, negotiations for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo remain deadlocked, and it’s sparking growing frustration at Carrington.

After sealing Cunha in June, United fans hoped a flurry of signings would follow. But only one more addition, Diego Leon, has joined the first team so far. As pre-season rolls on, Amorim’s blueprint for a rejuvenated squad is yet to materialize, and the clock is ticking.

United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo has become one of the summer’s most talked-about transfer sagas. Despite submitting two formal bids, the club remains far from matching Brentford’s valuation.

According to The Athletic, United’s current offer, £55 million upfront with £7.5 million in add-ons, is still short of the Bees’ £65 million asking price, with Brentford insisting on most of the fee being paid immediately.

Insiders say talks are ongoing, but there’s been “no significant progress”. With Amorim eager to have his full squad ready before the upcoming pre-season tour, the delay is an unwelcome distraction.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford, noticeably absent from Amorim’s tactical plans, isn’t going down without a fight. Despite being sidelined from the main squad and ordered to train during off-hours alongside Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho, Rashford has taken to Instagram to show he’s still grinding.

In a series of workout clips, the 27-year-old can be seen performing intense exercises, including pull-ups and bench presses on a medicine ball. His message is clear: he’s still committed, even as the club weighs a possible exit.

In a surprising twist, Manchester United have reportedly opened talks with former Bayern Munich and current Lyon midfielder Corentin Tolisso.

The 30-year-old, once a key part of France’s national setup, is now being monitored as a potential replacement for Christian Eriksen, whose contract expired earlier this summer.

According to L’Equipe, Lyon are open to selling due to financial constraints, despite initially planning to build their team around Tolisso.

The midfielder, valued at around £8.7 million and their highest-paid player, could be tempted by the allure of Old Trafford. However, United face competition from La Liga giants Atlético Madrid.
