Manchester United are once again on the brink of another transfer embarrassment, this time over their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo. Despite submitting two bids, the Red Devils have yet to meet Brentford’s £65 million valuation for their prized Cameroon international, leaving the door wide open for Tottenham Hotspur to swoop in and seal the deal.
According to reports, Brentford have made it clear they won’t budge unless United match their asking price in full. United’s most recent offer falls £2.5 million short, an amount seemingly trivial for a club of their stature, yet significant enough to put the entire deal in jeopardy.

This has paved the way for Spurs to intensify their interest in the 25-year-old forward. With Thomas Frank, Mbeumo’s former Brentford boss, now a key figure at Tottenham, a reunion could be on the cards, unless United act fast.
Former Manchester United star Paul Parker hasn’t held back his criticism. In a candid assessment, Parker warned that if Spurs land Mbeumo, it will be “very embarrassing” for United, especially as the player clearly prefers a move to Old Trafford.

“It’ll be very embarrassing for Manchester United if they can’t get the deal for Bryan Mbeumo over the line,” Parker told Gameshub.
“If they don’t get him, it’ll be down to the club failing to get the deal done, rather than Mbeumo not wanting to go to Old Trafford.”
Parker also cast doubt on Tottenham’s pull, suggesting Mbeumo had already mentally checked out of Brentford during Frank’s reign.
He noted uncertainty over whether Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is even on board with the signing, adding that Tottenham’s frontline is in need of serious reinforcement with Heung-min Son losing his sharpness.
While the Mbeumo saga unfolds, another chapter of United’s ongoing struggles centers around Marcus Rashford. The 26-year-old forward, once the poster boy for United’s youth revolution, is now facing an uncertain future.
After an uninspiring loan spell at Aston Villa during the latter half of last season, Rashford has been told by Parker that it’s time to move on.
“Rashford must move on from United and prove himself once again,” said Parker. “It’s clear he doesn’t have the appetite to play for United anymore… he’s burnt his bridges at Old Trafford.”
Parker added that Rashford’s lack of visible effort on the pitch, along with failed PR attempts to highlight his Villa performances, have only worsened his reputation. The once beloved “local boy” now seems unwanted by both club and fans alike.
As United’s summer drags on, two narratives have become painfully clear: one, their inability to close deals like Mbeumo’s is tarnishing the club’s credibility; and two, they may be forced to cut ties with Rashford as part of a deeper squad reset.
Old Trafford’s top brass must act quickly, not just to rescue this transfer window, but to stop the embarrassment from becoming institutional.
