Manchester United are making bold moves in the transfer market this summer. The Red Devils have just agreed a deal with Brentford to sign Bryan Mbeumo and now have their eyes on a much bigger prize, Xavi Simons.

This exciting new chapter began as United drew 0-0 against Leeds United in a pre-season friendly played in Sweden. Fans were eager to see new signing Matheus Cunha in action, and soon they may witness the arrival of even more firepower.

After weeks of intense talks, United finally struck a deal with Brentford for Bryan Mbeumo. The club had previously made two unsuccessful offers, but persistence paid off. Mbeumo is expected to join the squad before their U.S. pre-season tour against Premier League opponents like West Ham, Bournemouth, and Everton.

But Mbeumo and Cunha are only the beginning. Ruben Amorim, the new boss at Old Trafford, is determined to strengthen his squad further. However, to bring in more top players, United will need to let a few go.

Reports now reveal that Manchester United have officially opened talks to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig. They are not alone in this race. Chelsea are also in discussions with the Dutch star’s representatives, according to journalist Sebastian Vidal of Weekend Sports.

“Chelsea and Manchester United have opened talks with Xavi Simons’ camp,” Vidal said on X. Barcelona are also interested but consider his €70 million (£60 million) price too high for them.

Simons is one of the most exciting attacking talents in Europe. Last season, the 22-year-old scored 11 goals and made 8 assists in just 33 games. His ability to play both as a left winger and as an attacking midfielder makes him a very attractive option for Amorim, especially now that both Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho could leave the club.

United are reportedly working on a loan deal to send Rashford to Barcelona. At the same time, Garnacho is exploring options to exit Old Trafford. This creates an urgent need for a creative and powerful attacking presence on the left.

Xavi Simons seems like the perfect fit.

Premier League rivals Chelsea and Arsenal have also been keeping close eyes on the Dutch star. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently shared, “Chelsea and Arsenal among clubs attentive to Xavi Simons situation this summer. He’s prepared to leave Leipzig as revealed since May.”

No official bids had been made when Romano spoke, but the situation has since escalated quickly with United stepping up.

Simons joined RB Leipzig permanently in January 2025 after a successful loan spell. The German club even broke their transfer record to sign him. However, after Leipzig failed to qualify for the Champions League, Simons is now ready to move on.

This setback for Leipzig could become a golden chance for United, who despite missing out on some competitions recently, are still seen as a top destination by many players. Their success in signing Cunha and Mbeumo proves this point.

Bayern Munich were interested in Simons just last summer. Christoph Freund, Bayern’s sporting director, openly praised the youngster. “He is a very good player. He had a very good European Championship and a great season with Leipzig,” Freund said.

“He’s developed really well. I think he’s going to have a really good career at the highest level. He has everything: Mentality, character, and is just an exceptional player.”

Simons is known for his creative vision, quick dribbling, and tireless work rate. These qualities make him a dream signing for any team looking to rebuild or enhance their attacking options.

Manchester United are planning to pay for the new signings in instalments. This approach gives them more room to work within their budget while still targeting top-tier talent.

With Amorim’s strategic vision and the backing of the board, United are finally moving with purpose in the transfer market. Adding Xavi Simons would not only cover for potential exits but also send a powerful message to the rest of Europe.

At just 22 years old, Simons still has his best years ahead of him. Joining Manchester United could be the next big step in a career that already looks destined for greatness.

Now, with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Barcelona also interested, the race is heating up. But one thing is clear: Manchester United are serious about signing the player who “has everything.”

Could Xavi Simons be the rare gem who brings back the magic to Old Trafford? Fans will be watching closely as this summer saga unfolds.
