Manchester United have officially completed the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha in a blockbuster £62.5 million ($85 million) deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the 26-year-old fulfilling a childhood dream by joining the club he supported as a boy.

Cunha, who signed a five-year contract through to the summer of 2030 with an option for an additional year, has already been handed the iconic No.10 shirt, a number synonymous with legends both in Brazil and at Manchester United.

The forward reported to Carrington on Monday to kick off pre-season training, following a stellar 2024/25 season with Wolves, during which he scored 15 goals in 33 appearances, playing a pivotal role in keeping the Midlands club in the Premier League.

Speaking to United’s official website, Cunha said:

“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player. Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality.

“I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my team-mates and prepare for the season ahead. All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top.”

Cunha inherits the No.10 jersey, a number with deep roots in Brazilian football history, worn by the likes of Pelé, Ronaldinho, Zico, and Neymar. His own journey with the number includes wearing it at Hertha Berlin and Wolves, where he succeeded Daniel Podence as their No.10.

Previously, Cunha wore No.12 at Wolves, No.9 and No.19 at Atletico Madrid, and various other numbers during his stints at RB Leipzig and Sion.

Before making the move to Old Trafford, Cunha helped Brazil secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. His performances in the World Cup qualifiers further cemented his reputation as a dynamic forward with flair, power, and technical ability.

Fans won’t have to wait long to see Cunha in action. He is expected to feature in Manchester United’s upcoming pre-season fixtures, which begin with a clash against Leeds United in Stockholm.

The club will then head to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series, with games scheduled across major U.S. cities. The summer campaign wraps up with a friendly against Fiorentina at Old Trafford, just one week before the new Premier League season begins.

With a dream fulfilled, a famous number on his back, and a massive stage ahead, Matheus Cunha is ready to light up Old Trafford.
