Arsenal fans were treated to a glimpse of the future during their pre-season win over AC Milan, and it came in the form of 15-year-old Max Dowman. Making his senior debut, Dowman didn’t just step onto the pitch with confidence, he impressed his manager, teammates, and fans with a level of maturity and quality well beyond his years.
Manager Mikel Arteta couldn’t hide his pride after the game. Speaking warmly about Dowman’s performance, Arteta praised the young forward for his calmness, confidence, and composure, especially under the difficult heat and pressure of the match.

“Very happy with all the kids,” said Arteta. “I think they are able to play at that level at 15 years old in my opinion because of the environment and culture that is within the team.”
Dowman was brought on in the final 25 minutes against Milan, taking position on the right wing: the same role usually played by Bukayo Saka, who also captained the side and scored the match’s only goal. Despite the big stage and tough opponent, Dowman looked at ease, showing he belonged at that level.

And the story didn’t end there. After the game, the two teams took part in a light-hearted penalty shootout for fan entertainment, where Dowman managed to find the net, making the moment even more unforgettable.
Arteta was quick to give credit to the Arsenal academy for nurturing such talent. He applauded the work done by coaches, staff, and everyone involved in preparing young players for big moments.
“When somebody makes you feel so comfortable and so confident straightaway you can go and do it,” Arteta added. “At least it gives you the best chance, and then you have to have the qualities this kid has to deliver against opposition like this.”
The Arsenal academy has produced many stars in recent years, and Dowman looks set to be one of the next big names. There’s already talk that he could be included in the first-team squad when the season kicks off next month.
But he wasn’t the only young talent on display. Fellow academy stars Marli Salmon and Josh Nichols, aged 18, also featured in the game, showing Arsenal’s exciting pool of talent. Playing in Singapore’s hot and sticky weather added an extra challenge, but all three youngsters handled the conditions impressively.
Bukayo Saka, a product of the same academy, said the energy in the dressing room is sky-high. Not only because of the youngsters, but also because several summer signings made their first appearances.
Christian Norgaard started the match, while Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga came on as substitutes. More signings are expected, with Noni Madueke yet to join up with the squad.
Arteta also took a moment to speak about Saka’s progress. “We have pushed him through the summer to catch up on a lot of things… to give himself the best chance to exploit his qualities better and with more impact every time,” he said. “Physically he’s at the highest level.”
This game was more than just a friendly win. It was a symbol of Arsenal’s faith in youth, a proud moment for the academy, and a powerful reminder of how far the club has come in building a culture of trust, development, and opportunity.
For Max Dowman, it may have just been the beginning. But what a beginning it was.
With more pre-season games to come and the Premier League around the corner, fans will be eager to see if Dowman and his fellow youngsters get more minutes on the pitch. One thing is clear: Arsenal’s future looks very bright.
